| Has anyone here tried the Amazon trade-in program? I don't know if it's something new they're trying or if it's been in place for awhile and I only just now became aware of it thruhg an email they sent me.
If I'm reading things right, you type in the cd and they'll tell you if they (or their sellers) are looking for a copy and what it's worth. Pack up your music and print a free shipping label. Once received, Amazon will credit you a gift card with the amount. Sounds pretty simple.
So far, I've plugged in a few cds I have to trade with little results. Turns out noone is looking for No Doubt and Green Day cds. I think you can do it with games and dvds too. Possibly children as well. I haven't read all the fine print.
Anyway, I like the idea of it and was wondering if anyone here has actually tried it. Any opinions, good bad or indifferent are welcome. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| This was just recently implemented, I haven't tried it yet but I prefer doing my trading at physical shops, thankfully in L.A. that's easy to accomplish.

I don't have that option much anymore. The last shop in my general area cherry-picked anything marginally decent I had. The stuff I'm looking to unload is mostly freebies that I got from work when we made the switch to digital anyway. Even the ebay market seems to be drying up, and the shipping costs are eating into my profits. So I'm looking for ways to unload these anyway I can, short of using them for skeet shooting or throwing them at the squirrels in my yard. Even if I'm only getting .50 on a disc, it's still .50 I can put towards another purchase of something I want. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | I got an e-mail about it from Amazon a couple of days ago but my immediate reaction was "You can have my CDs when you pry them from my cold dead fingers, you scavengers!! Away with thee!"
But seriously folks... like you, MG, what little trade bait I have laying around is not stuff that's in high demand so I doubt there'd be much point in my even trying this method. I might as well hang onto 'em and put 'em out next time my family has a yard sale. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I looked into it...
When you put in an artist, it tells you what titles they accept and how much they'll give you IF their criteria are met...the average I saw from what I looked up is about 35 cents. _________________ FINAL SIGN

I haven't read all the details just yet. How strict is their criteria? Most of what I'd trade is practically brand new with the exception of maybe a hole-punch through the upc label. It's mostly promo stuff. Some might still be sealed. Eh, if I get some time, I might give it a shot and see how it goes. The way I see it, I don't have anything to lose. As long as I meet their their standards, I'm sending them something for free and getting something in return. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | I just traded a whole bunch of stuff with SentinelSteel.com I got around $64 to put towards some stuff I found on his site. A lot of it was typical crap and I got 50 cents for a few of them but other I got anywhere from $1-$7. _________________ | |

| I was on another forum where they were saying that the top dollar amazon will pay is 11.00 and that was for rare out of print box sets. Will be interesting to see if this is successful for them. For me it's just not worth the effort of packaging the stuff and taking it to the post office just for a few bucks credit. Probably cost me more in gas than I'd get in credit. | |

| Just for gits 'n' shiggles I looked into this trade-in thingy and ran some of my trade bait titles into their system... woo! I can get "up to 90 cents" for my copy of Geoff Tate's self-titled solo album!! "up to 30 cents" for Richie Sambora's "Undiscovered Soul!" 65 cents for Iced Earth's "Framing Armageddon!"
...and that damn Nelson "After the Rain" disc I picked up at a yard sale isn't even eligible for trading in. That figures.

Y'know, I just f*ckin' KNEW someone was gonna ask that, so I actually looked the damn thing up even though it hit the wastebasket a couple of years ago... and it too is "not eligible for trade-in." _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Not worth it, IMO. If there's a CD that I can only get a few cents out of, I'll either keep it or trash it. It's not worth the hassle of shipping it. In their used market, I see CDs going for $0.01 all the time and I would never do that. Waste of time. | |

| For the paltry sums they're apparently offering, I think I'll keep my "discards". Besides, I learned a long time ago not to get rid of ANYTHING because my tastes change so often that I ended up having to rebuy CDs I traded off. I haven't really sold anything for about 5 years now. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
