First teaser from Moonspell's new album, Alpha Noir/Omega White.
Really good song. Again, a bit different than expected, I think.
Seems like these these guys do things in twos. Wolfheart and Irreligious were like post-black-metal goth. Sin-Pecado and The Butterfly Effect were experimental. The Antidote and Darkness and Hope were full-on goth metal. Memorial and Night Eternal were much heavier, bringing in more of the early black metal, or basically encompassing all their styles into two albums.
Either way, really looking forward to this new one. I've yet to be disappointed by them.

It took my awhile to warm up to these guys but they have grown on me. I'm looking forward to hearing more of the new stuff.

If you guys dig the more black-metal Moonspell, check out the band's side-project, Daemonarch.

Sounds promising, though I find these multi clip samples a bit annoying. Sounds like the more heavy numbers are on Alpha Noir while the more mellow ones are on Omega White (I'll probably end up enjoying that latter one more).

Yeah, that's the point. Black (heavy) and white (mellow...ish).

I didn't know that Noir meant black so that's why it wasn't so obvious to me.

Here are some longer clips of the song "White Skies."
Seems that Omega White is going to be more like their more goth period albums, Darkness and Hope and The Antidote.

Man, this album is fantastic! Or should I say "these albums"?
Yet again, it's different. As I've said before, here, they tend to switch things up every third album. This is no different. Alpha Noir is by far their most "traditional heavy metal" album.
Now, that's in quotes because it's still Moonspell and bares no overall similarity to that style. What I hear is them channeling that classic sound, particularly in the riffs. For instance...
Not a typical riff for these guys. (If you're a fan of No Innocent Victim, you'll recognize the beginning of the song is identical to "Grief.") And there's a lot of those moments. Best served loud, this one. Great stuff.
Omega White is a different beast, as expected. It's a lot mellower and at times experimental. Not in The Butterfly Effect sense, but in instrumentation and styles. For instance...
There are moments that remind me of R.E.M. ("Incantatrix"), other moments that are very Type O Negative-ish ("New Tears Eve"). "Herodisiac" is extremely catchy, upbeat, almost poppy...
Just another great collection of tunes, though mostly a glaring contrast to Alpha Noir. Which it should be, of course. A couple tunes could have fit nicely on Alpha Noir, though.
Either way, both albums are excellent. It's hard to compare them to Memorial and Night Eternal, because those two were so heavy and brilliant; but if you take the new albums on their own merits, they're equally brilliant.

New video.
This track is from the mellower, more experimental Omega White disc.
Can't get enough of these albums. They're so good.

I haven't bought this but my brother recently picked it up. And a friend of mine has as well. They both have told me that the Omega White cd is far better than Alpha Noir disc. Do you agree?

Really? If I had to choose, I'd say Alpha Noir is better. It's just heavier, has more of a "head-banging" groove, you know.
But I guess it all depends on what you dig. Alpha Noir is much heavier, so if you're not into that as much as the mellower stuff, Omega White will probably be better for you.

Moonspell are one of my all-time favorite bands, always trying some new sounds, always sounding like Moonspell when doing so. Still...I never expected a damn bluesy rock ballad from them. Wow!
Really looking forward to this album. Such a great band! Here's the other single they released from the upcoming album, which again has some new sounds for them, almost a modern rock riff in there while emulating Katatonia...
