| Why is there not more Metalheads that look metal in the us as opposed to europe and such conutries?U see bands in america and everyone looks so normal looking except some here n there with denim vests covered with patches/pins/studs/n logos, belts, wristbands, and such but most just look normal. When u festivals like Keep It True,Heavy Metal Maniacs festival and other festivals in Europeon countries theres tons of metalheads who look very metal like i listed above. Why is it so much different there as opposed to here? | |

| I think we from Europe like to live the lifestyle more and we like to expres our love for real heavy metal with our looks. We are so proud of our movement that we like to show it. We like to see cool looking bands on stage with pure metal outfits but we also like to look like that. I think like that you get a stronger bound between bands and fans. If anybody want to look cool, buy my Tshirts P.d. Also i like to say that we in Europe dont only dress like that going to KIT or other festivals and concerts, but its just our daily way of dressing (at work its not always possible of course but you have to make money). | |

| I have been told that I don't look like the type of guy who would listen to metal. I have plenty of metal shirts, but I rarely wear them to work. A guy saw me on a metal site at work during a break I had one day, and he seemed surprised to see me there. | |

| I just wear what I like really. At shows I go further by wearing my patched vest over my studded leather, but on a regular day I just like to wear what I find most comfortable: jeans, t-shirt, hi tops. I'm not out to prove I'm a metal fan on a day to day basis and my hair already seems to make it obvious to most people | |

| Are you from the USA????. I confused you ones with speedyk1 when you wrote me a private message i remember. Anyway even if people around you are not dressing 100% metal, you still can of course. I am living in a village and i am the only metalhead and proud to be one always of course. Hail to you for being the way you are. | |

| I don't look or dress metal and there are a couple of reasons for that
1. I have a full time job in corporate law, which means that for around 10hrs every day of the week I am dressed in a suit. With such a job there are no two ways about it: you are required to come dressed in a suit, have a clean look, no tats, no piercings or long hair. As I see it this is a small price to pay in exhange for being able to earn a decent living and buying any albums I want or going to any metal shows.
2. In the little spare time I have I dress casually, wearing whatever is more comfortable for the Australian climate. This seldom means wearing tight jeans, boots, jacket etc. Quite the opposite - shorts and a tshirt. Similarly, long hair is impractical when you have to deal with 40 dgrees C outside.
Wearing black tshirts is also not the smartest thing if you want to keep cool in summer.

| I dont have to dress a certain way to be metal. I dont feel the need to conform to someone else's opinion on what 'looks' metal and what isnt. Its about the music. _________________ | |

| I am lucky enough to be able to wear jeans to work, but I don't wear band shirts to work. I'll wear dark, solid color golf shirts with jeans.
Outside of work, I usually wear black t-shirts & jeans...but not overflowing with Metal garb. I'll wear the occasional band shirt, but not all the time. I don't really even have a lot of Metal shirts anyway. My hair is close/buzzed and I have a beard/goatee...but I took out all my earrings years ago. I have no tats or piercings. I guess the most Metal thing about how I look is my sideburns, beard/goatee & the fact that I wear a lot of black. _________________ FINAL SIGN

| I have no tattoos and very rarely wear any type of metal shirts, the only rock shirts I own are 4 of them , KISS, AC/DC, Hendrix, and The Doors.
I have longish hair and I do not suffer from hemorrhoids and while I have never done this I am sure I would be able to download porn successfully.

| I just grew up. If I dressed the same way I did 20 years ago, I'd look ridiculous. Hair is short, earrings gone, tatts covered (except in summer). I pretty much dress in all black still and wear either big, clunky engineer boots or Chuck Taylors. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

I absolutely agree with what you're saying. Who cares about clothing? Let's talk about metal music!

You know, I certainly couldn't picture a Boy George looking guy listening to bands like Gorgasm!

| ^^^ You guys weren't supposed to share that pic of me!!! I wear a uniform to work so that pretty much eliminates me being able to wear any shirts or spikes and studs or anything. I can wear a baseball hat or beanie, which I will often do, but that's about it. Alot of times though, the bands I like don't even have headwear. Outside of work, I have plenty of shirts and hoodies of bands that I usually wear. I was never in to tight jeans and high tops, so that is out of the question. I still wear my doc martens on occasion, but let's face it, Nike's are more comfortable on a Sunday afternoon. Oh yeah, I used to have my hair long, but age took care of that. Shaved is the only hairstyle for me nowadays. I still keep some nappy facial hair though. | |

| For me, metal is about the music, not the image. Also, if you're strictly speaking about concert pictures, many people get dressed up for shows to show support for the bands they like. | |

Whether it's good, bad or in between, the U.S is a VERY trendy country. What is popular today, could be and very well might be laughed at within a year's time. And that certainly goes for anything dress related. Though I like certain metal looks, much of what I witnessed first hand or revisit through videos looks/looked horrible. For instance, I just brought up The Decline of Western Civilization Part 2 in another thread. That documentary alone should be a warning regarding certain hair styles and dress styles that should never be revisited.
