Actually, Lemmy is not too big on the term heavy metal. He prefers dirty rock n' roll.

All these bands are good choices but I just don't see Rush as being "Progressive Metal", no matter which album you point to.

There's some truth to that, that rigid adherence to musical rules across the board can stifle creativity, but genre labels are just an easy way to communicate about similar musical acts. Without them we would have a much harder time discussing music at all.
