Dang!!!! That's what I was going to suggest since that album had the same effect on me(but I heard it in the Mid-Eighties)!!! I take it that that you've heard "Relayer" then? Which would be another non-metal choice.

Yup, at 59 yers old I hve heard most of what you have on your list. I have not heard those 2 Tangerine Dreams, but I do have a few vinyl albums. I don't know Michael Hedges or Henry Cow.

Just got into this band a few weeks ago and a few of their albums have blown me away. Not metal at all, but they are (were) a great band. I think this is my favorite out of the bunch.

The list is now 101 strong. I think it will take some time to listen to all of these albums or bands. Suggestions on how to utilize last.fm or some of the other sites that offer selective listening would be helpful.
For instance if you tune in to last.fm you may only hear one song by the artist and it may not even be from the album that was suggested. Is there some way to control what you listen to?

The list is so long now that I it will take me a very long time to get through.
I love Melodic Hard Rock and AOR. As a matter of fact when I get tired of something I aways fall back on Hard Rock, progressive, or AOR.

You've never heard anyone play an acoustic guitar like this. I present Michael Hedges. Playing the title track from Aerial Boundaries from Windham Hill in concert 1986:
and now for some Electronic Music from Tangerine Dream! This is the title track from the album Phaedra from 1974. They actually did have the sequencer go out of control and decided to keep it because it sounded cool. If you like "On The Run" from Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, you'll like this(This is MUCH better). Definitely headphone music!
I decided to add this! This is from my Favorite TD album, Rubycon. It's Part 2:
LOVE those mellotrons!!!!!!

I know the list is growing so much but I have some more (listen to samples first as these, like the others, are just ones that have blown me away):
Allen/Lande-The Battle (they have two others but this one is the best of them) Circle II Circle-Burden Of Truth Amorphis-Silent Waters Amoprhis-Skyforger Royal Hunt-Paradox Axel Rudi Pell-Kings & Queens Avantasia-The Metal Opera I & II Kamelot-Karma White Wizzard-Over The Top Circus Maximus--1st Chapter Dream Theater-Black Clouds & Silver Linings (best thing they've done in 10 years) Grave Digger-The Clans Will Rise Again Nocturnal Rites-Grand Illusion Arena-Contagion Evergrey-The Inner Circle Thocracy-Mirror Of Souls James LaBrie-Elements Of Persuassion Thunderstone-Tools Of Destruction Balance Of Power-Perfect Balance
Those last two also have other arse kicking albums but I listed my favorite ones.
Also in the MHR genre:
Thunder-Backstreet Symphony Mr. Big-What If... Warrant-Dog Eat Dog Stryper-Murder By Pride Love/Hate-Wasted In America and check out CDs from Brazen Abbot (features all star vocalists including Joe Lynn Turner)
Getting overwelmed? Welcome to the club .
