New song called "Heroes for Ghosts" can be streamed or downloaded at that link.
Excellent song, too! Still nothing like Mandylion or the heavier early stuff, but that's to be expected at this point. I absolutely love this band, though, so I think all their more Floydish albums have been fantastic.
Can't wait for the new album!

i really liked the last guitar oriented album. i hope this one is similar in that aspect anyway. of course, all their albums are good.

This track gets a little heavy at the end. Nothing like the early stuff, but heavy enough.

I've tried to get into this band but I just can't. When I was in my "female-fronted metal" phase, I bought several of the earlier albums including Mandylion and they just didn't do anything for me. I can appreciate the talents of everyone involved but the music just didn't grab me; too prog or something.

that's cool, but it doesn't necessarily have to be "heavy" for me. i just prefer guitar based stuff. this song sounds good, i wouldn't mind a full album of this for sure.

Yeah, it's a lot heavier than I expected. I've listened to it just once, but I really liked it.

Anneke, just like Sarah McLachlan, could sing the f*cking dictionary & I'd love it.

You're a McLachlan fan, too? Hell yeah! She's my favorite female singer/songwriter.

yeah Sarah has such emotion in her vocals & lyrics, you just cannot, not be moved.. if that makes sense. you'd have to be inhuman.

If you're into that kind of stuff, check out Tara Maclean's first album, Silence.
Her other albums are great, but Silence has a darker, more somber feel. I wish Sarah would do another album with that kind of sound, that darker, Fumbling Toward Ecstasy sound, you know.

I expected her to be huge. She was on the same label as McLachlan and was getting more and more popular. But after her second album she kind of fell off the face of the earth. Got married, divorced, married again, had kids, and eventually resurfaced in some folky-country-pop band called Shaye.
She put out a solo EP and full-length—which includes the EP—a couple years back, but has once again fallen off the planet. Weird.

Get a room, you two. Just be sure to film everything though and post it on YouPorn.

and another new song, Meltdown, has been posted at http://thegathering.bandcamp.com/. Quite a bit different. I strongly disliked it on the first listen, but it's growing on me now. Not as epic as Heroes for Ghosts. Seems to have more of a pop/dance influence to it.

Whgen they got the female singer I lost all interest. There were a few good songs on Mandylion but after that I caouldn't tolerate them. Their best album is "Always" when they had Bart on vocals! KILLER album!!! I have never heard the 2nd album though. It is still so damn hard to find. I guess the band didn't like it either haha. The singer on that album was very short lived with his time in the band.

I have not listened to any of The Gathering's music since Home...

you should correct that. The West Pole is a very strong album. also, check out Anneke's solo stuff too. you'll be very pleased.

So Disclosure is a fantastic album. Not sure if anyone else has heard it yet, but man, this band is just so good.
Because of that, I've obviously been bummed by the fact that the Afterlights 10" EP was only available as a bonus when you bought a package deal, the cheapest of which was over $50 and nearly $35 for S&H. Ridiculous, to say the least.
Well, I'm happy for this announcement:
Quote :
As you might know, we’ve released four exclusive tracks on a limited edition 10 inch vinyl EP called ‘Afterlights’. We’ve received many requests to release this one on CD, so we’ve decided to do so. Besides the original tracks this Afterlights CD will contain some brand new songs that we are finalizing as we speak! We hope to release this CD early 2013. We’ll keep you posted!
Bummer for those fans who undoubtedly bought these packages specifically for the EP. I'd be pissed. But I'm happy. Haha.

Word. I checked around, but couldn't find it. Some people are selling it on Discogs.com (a great site, by the way), but it's too pricey.

So the re-release of Afterlights is now calls Afterwords.
Quote :
Dutch/Norwegian rockers THE GATHERING will release their new 43-minute album, "Afterwords", in September on CD, vinyl and other formats. In addition to the three songs that originally appeared on the "Afterlights" EP in 2012, the new disc contains two fresh "Disclosure" remakes as well as three brand new THE GATHERING tracks and a cover version of a song called "Areas". The album's title track, "Afterwords", features a guest appearance on vocals by founding THE GATHERING member Bart Smits and it "shows the 'other' side of Bart's dynamic voice," according to the band. Contributing "great trumpet parts" to the CD once again is Noel Hofman.
"Afterwords" track listing:
01. S.I.B.A.L.D. 02. Echoes Keep Growing 03. Afterwords 04. Tuning In, Fading Out 05. Areas 06. Gemini III 07. Afterlights 08. Sleep Paralysis 09. Bärenfels
The song "Afterwords" can now be streamed in the YouTube clip below.
THE GATHERING has scheduled shows in The Netherlands, Norway and France in November. This will mark the band's first time playing in Norway since 2001, and the first THE GATHERING show for singer Silje Wergeland — who was previously in the Norwegian band OCTAVIA SPERATI — on her home turf.
THE GATHERING's latest album, "Disclosure", was released on September 12, 2012 via the band's own Psychonaut Records. The CD cover artwork was created by the Chilean artist Carlos Vergara Rivera.
Sounds great to me.

I'm really starting to love The Gathering, only have Mandylion and Nighttime Birds at the moment but these songs make me want to check out later stuff. I also really like their cover of Dethroned Emperor.
The Anneke song sounds like a wonderful voice wasted on a mediocre song to me.

After Mandylion and Nighttime Birds, they slowly became more Pink Floyd than anything resembling those two albums. And their first two, of course, are also quite different.
Brilliant band, though. Vastly different than what they once were, but they're still writing wonderful music. Still, Mandylion is one of those albums that, in my opinion, can't be topped. It's just timeless.
