New Prince album Planet Earth released today...

...and it is pretty good. I know that there aren't too many Prince fans on this site, but I know that Saxon is a huge fan. If you are a fan though, have you heard the new disc and what do you think?

I know he is not strictly one genre, I'd go with funk-rock, but he is a fantastic guitar player and there is a lot of heavy guitar solos on this album and on his other albums.

Planet Earth is the best I have heard from his purple highness since
Chaos and Disorder (an album most people panned because it rocked
harder than anything he had done since '84 - and it was cool to bash
Prince at the time). You can really tell he is completely
comfortable with his life. It also showed on stage on
07.07.07. I am a veteran of well over 500 concerts, and my top
three are 3) Prince (Rainbow Children), 2) Prince (Musicology), and 1)
Prince (3121).



I can go on one of my typical rants, but when the truth that Prince is
one of the most talented musical GENIUSES of the last few generations
is so indisputible, there really is no reason.



Btw, spirit, there have been more than a few Neck Snappin', Fist
Pumpin', Head Banging skank-freaks on this board admit admiration for
this very un-metal artist.

I know but you were the first one I thought of, mainly because when I commented on Prince before you were the only one that expressed enjoyment in the purple one. It must be a Minnesota Thing.

Hey now, I don't disregard his musical genius at all; I've just never considered him the sort of rock artist in such that he belongs in a rock forum. But that's debatable, and hey, I'm not complaining!

Prince kicked some ass in his day. The "Purple Rain" soundtrack is a great record...

On the other hand, I caught the "Purple Rain" movie on cable a few months back for the first time in God knows how long, and that movie had NOT aged well at all.. but at least Prince's girlfriend at the time, Apollonia Kotero, was hot as hell!!

Yeah Prince rocks. He is brilliant. I have'nt checked out the new album but it sounds great by the reviews its getting. Its funny because alot of metal heads I know particuarly the ones into glam and 80's metal dig Prince, maybe something to do with the guy being a guitar virtuoso and having a high voice (common themes perhaps in both music). Prince is indeed Rock N' Roll and belongs in this forum.

I dig the Purple One....kinda of lost interest in his work after "Sin O' The Times" but have no problem with admitting I dig him and awe at his genius...

And while were at it lets give it up for the Revolution, the best backing band this side of the Bad Seeds and Love Reaction!

I love Prince.

I will band with most and say that Prince is a cool cat. Excellent songwriter, guitarist, etc... I have a good number of his albums, 10 I think, and they are all great. Right now/today I would say Diamonds and Pearls is my fave, but it changes regularly.

And man has his stable of chicks been impressive!!!
