| These guys are a bunch of clowns and they make my blood boil every time I see them in the news. Why does the media give them any coverage?
Their actions are just disgraceful and about as anti-Christian as you can possibly get. I fail to see how their message of hate - of spreading "God's hate" - is at all effective. Their preachings are neither christian nor religious, they are akin to Nazis.
I am not the most religious person here but I don't think it matters. I consider myself Christian and I believe in God - and if my understanding of Christianity is correct then it is about forgiveness and hope, it is about coming out from the dark and into the light. God doesn't hate anyone - to say that God hates us makes no sense for if he hates us, he would hate himself for creating us.
The Westboro Baptist Church abuses the freedom of speech to vilify all those whom they don't agree with and it seems they do not agree with anything and anyone except their own twisted teachings. I find it difficult to understand how they see the world and what they wish of it - how do they see humanity should behave? They preach hate, which is something Jesus Christ, our Savior, never ever preached. His was not a message of hate - rather his was a message of unity, of love and peace. Of conciliation and understanding.
What Westboro preaches is the vilification and, one would think, the physical elimination of others with whom they do not agree - that view is not entirely different from Hitler's and other megalomaniac totalitarian leaders who saw it fit to murder others because they did not agree with them.
Thankfully, the Westboro Baptist Church is still rather small and, beyond the media coverage, largely insignificant. However, as with any hate group that goes through the various stages from ideology to action - once it grows to have hardcore followers take violent actions in its name it will become a real threat to the peace and order of society.
I am just disgusted by these goons and they are in no way at all Christians or spiritual people. To say that it is good people are being killed and dying is so opposed to anything Jesus Christ taught us.

| Aa a christian I am ashamed that these poor mis-guided fools get any recognition at all, while decent churches all over the place help people every day and get no credit for it. The leader of this group, Fred Phelps, is as bad as David Koresh or Jim Jones IMO. They came to my area to protest a funeral last year, thankfully a large group of counter-protesters showed up and kept the family from seeing any of the hateful garbage on their signs. | |

| They are stupid, but they are also hilarious. I was searching on youtube and came across a documentary about them and they are just insane. The things that they say and do are just funny and you can't really take them seriously because obviously they are the only ones who believe in what they are doing. The funniest thing is I saw one interview with them and the lady was singing Ozzy's Crazy Train and she changed the lyrics, but she protests against Ozzy, Dio, etc, yet she knows the music lol.
They are good for a good laugh. _________________

See but that is where there is a problem. If they come to protest about their beliefs and another group show up to protest about their beliefs then both are in the wrong, because everyone has their own views and opinions. If everyone would just let these people do their little protest and completely ignore them they most likely would eventually go away because no one cares. They only like the attention and why would they stop if people are paying attention? _________________

The only reason for the counter-protest was to keep the family of the deceased from having to see these idiots, no one tried to stop them from doing their stupid chanting and sign-waving.

I agree. What they're doing is counter-productive to christianity and preaching hate will never get you anywhere with the masses.

Hear hear! These people are disgusting and despicable. To protest funerals and cause extra pain to already grieving mourners is unforgivable. Thank God they thought better of protesting the funeral of the 9 year old girl.

| I read an article in the local paper a few weeks ago that said they were coming to my old high school to protest something or other about Catholic priests and the article was asking people not to show up or give them any attention. I guess it worked because I never heard another thing about it. I can pretty much laugh them off, but I do find it disturbing when they show the little kids spouting their hate, raising a new generation of ignorance. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

The one thing about Phelps the media never seems to mention is that he's actually a former civil rights attorney and a life-long Democrat.
Do some research.
He's not a Right-Wing Republican by any stretch.

| I could careless if the man carried water for Dr. King, the man uses his 'church' to preach hatered plain and simple, which if he really was a civil rights activist then he now represents everything he once stood against. | |

What you just posted is just as big of problem as anything in our nation right now. Politicizing anything and everything. Just a bunch of rhetoric about nothing that matters in relation to this group. Hate is hate and it has nothing to do with Christ and especially nothing to do what political affiliation one has or had.
