Is it just me or are the EMI remasters of really poor quality or rather poorly remastered.

I am a late comer to the band, I got into them about 10 years ago and I've been slowly collecting their stuff. By the time I got to their 80s albums the only albums readily available were the EMI remasters and while some sound okay, Animal Magnetism sounds like garbage. I have never heard the original vinyl / cd copy - is it different? better? etc.

The other remasters are so so ... they are passable but not great sounding. With that in mind, what are the best issues or reissues when it comes to late 70s and 80s Scorpions.

The remasters that I have from "Love Drive" through "World Wide Live" by Mercury are decidedly weak. I think they're of the 18-20 bit remaster variety. They simply sound weak, compared to the Axe Killer remasters of "Fly To the Rainbow", "In Trance", and "Virgin Killer", and "Taken By Force" and "Tokyo Tapes" released by Hip-O recordings.

I wasn't aware their 70s (pre Tokyo Tapes) albums had been re-issued. I was able to track down the original RCA cd pressings for a nice price. For In Trance I have the Japanese version which cost me an arm and a leg but it wasn't readily available at the time and I really wanted that album - in fact it's my favorite of theirs.
