I just wanted to show you guys one of the bands I am recently into - Jerusalem. The band released an album in 1972 produced by none other than the Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillian. They played heavy, Sabbath/Purple-rock or you can even say proto-metal. Not really proggy or subtle but heavy emphasis on the guitar and smokin' energy. They also had a pretty cool dark/gothic vibe going at times.
Some of their tracks:
What is your opinion on these guys? I find them totally amazing and not so far away from some NWOBHM stuff I love.

Not bad. For "proto-metal", check out Captain Beyond.

Cool. Cannot actually say I have ever heard these guys before. Like you said, they did have a certain NWOBHM feel even though this is what, 8 years previous? The Ian Gillian connection is a neat tidbit.

Of course Captian Beyond has its own Deep Purple connection with former Deep Purple vocalist Rod Evans was their vocalist for a short time.

Yeah the NWOBHM feel of the tracks is there. Kinda doomy also. And yeah it was about 7-8 years previous. To me it's great stuff - raw guitar pounding and a kinda cool vocalist.

Groovy. I could listen to more of this. They only put out one album? Is it easy to find or rarer than hen's teeth?

Rockadrome released a reissue in 2008/9 I think. It's readily available with some bonuses to boot. I reccomend it. Great stuff.
Edit: And yeah - it's their sole album.

That's probably the only Jerusalem album that sounds like U2.

You are both correct, albeit I find Prophet to be way heavier than anything U2 ever put out.

and you are correct, too. Jerusalem has a great catalog dating back to the early 70's.
