Dubai

Will be going to Dubai for a couple of weeks very soon.

How's the metal situation over there? Any interesting shopping? Or just record stores selling the classical catalogue (AC/DC, Maiden and Priest)?

I've been to Dubai a couple of times, but it was a decade ago. Man, time flies. Anyway, I remember browsing in CD stores, but can't remember being very impressed. I can't even remember whether I bought anything or not. Regardless, it's a great city and you should have a good time. I remember the taxi cabs were Mercedes-Benz. Pretty cool.

Olaf (metalgiant) is currently living there. Try to hook up with him, I'm sure he has found all there is to know about the Dubai metal scene by now.

well haven`t searched to much here yet. Or church bookstore has some cool old rare metal & rock CD`s. The supermarkets have MAIDEN, AC/DC..... I am not sure about concerts but I know that we have some Death Metal acts here. Also heard that there is a new Hard Rock Café in Festival City.
BTW where will you stay, I am living in Discovery Gardens.

Still don't know where i'll be located. I'll check the store you mentioned (is it called church bookstore????)

As for Dubai, well it is a big bubble and like the houses in a Hollywood movie, very nice facade but not real.

I went to Dubai a few times when I was in the navy, the first time I went to a mall where I saw a heavily edited version of Me, Myself, And Irene and ate at a Middle East TGIF but I didn't do much else there. The second time was shortly after September 11, 1999 and we weren't allowed to leave the base.

I think he means that his name has origins in Scandinavia, rather than in Germany. Olav/Olaf is a very common name in Norway (where I live) and Sweden.
