As some of us film geeks already know, Eric Stoltz was the "original" Marty McFly in the movie 'Back to the Future'. 5 weeks of filming were scrapped and Michael J. Fox was brought in instead. And as the saying goes "...and the rest is history". Some of the original Stolz footage will be included in the Blu-Ray edition of the BTTF triology coming soon. Link contains some sneak previews.
I don't know why I find that info/footage so intriguing, but I do. I just love those movies so much. And Eric Stoltz is no Marty McFly.

Just watched that link. Wow its wierd he almost looked like Michael J Fox, but I'm glad they changed that because I don't know if that movie would have been as good as it was if he would have been the guy.

That was the right decision - there is no way the movie would have been a hit with Stoltz. While Stoltz is a good actor, he was just wrong for the part. Of course, it didn't hurt that Alex P. Keaton was cast in the role.

We're huge fans of the Back to the Future trilogy. I never knew Stoltz was the original Marty and find that interesting but I wouldn't buy the blu ray just for thatfootage, though.

There's some footage of Stoltz on the original R4 BTTF trilogy release. Good actor, but wrong for the part.

You gotta feel sorry for Eric Stoltz, losing the part of a lifetime like that.
Who knows, this could be the thing that pushes him over the edge. Even now, he could be throwing knives at a Michael J. Fox poster and saying "YOU TOOK MY LIFE DAMN YOU! I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE!"
If I were Michael J. Fox, I'd get a restraining order as soon as this Blu-Ray is released. Just to be on the safe side.

I remember reading about Stoltz in one of those "actors who turned down/lost iconic roles" years ago. There were some still photos floating around on the web, but that's the first time I've actually seen filmed footage. Neat, but yea, wrong guy for the part.
Too bad for me, I don't own a Blu-Ray player.

I'm a big BTTF guy myself, but I do not own a blu-ray player either and don't see myself getting one anytime soon. Besides, I own the boxset on DVD, that will have to do for now.

Tom Selleck was supposed to be Indiana Jones but he couldn't get out of his commitments to "Magnum P.I." in order to take the part. I imagine he must still lose sleep over that one.

I wonder if that trilogy would have been as good as it was. I think Selleck would have done okay. Although, the porn stache would have had to go.

On the side bar of that YouTube video, you can watch Snake Pliskin auditioning for the role of Han Solo too!

Never knew about this either. Stoltz is an amazing actor, imo. But he would not be right for BTTF.
