Do I Need HELP??

I don't know if it's me or not. But how many of you hunt down everything by a band? I have gotten into vinyl the last few years and I find myself hunting down every release that a band has brought out on vinyl..I have just tracked down all the Jag Panzer albums for instances. Does anybody else do this or am I just twisted

I try to get all the stuff I like, which fortunately is usually a lot of it, but I really end up concentrating on studio albums, an EP or something would have to be 90% stuff not on the other releases, et al, for me to pick up those too. So I typically feel pretty complete with the studio albums.

Yea, I can relate. Years ago, I was one of those guys who felt like he HAD to own EVERY note ever recorded by every band I have ever liked. At the time it was no big deal cuz I was single and therefore had enough disposable income to piss away on imports, promo CD singles, soundtracks, etc., etc. -- eventually, of course, storage became an issue, as did the fact that I'd accumulated a whole lotta crap that I never even listened to. So I went thru a big "purge" in the mid 90s and now I mainly concentrate on studio albums. I don't drive myself crazy trying to find the import version with the bonus track, or the radio promo single with a two minute interview, or whatever. It was getting to be too much work anyway.

Yes, it's called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. My wife swears I have it. I do the exact same thing.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one I mainly stick to studio albums also. Tonight I just tracked down the Agent Steel albums on vinyl. I had Unstoppable Force on vinyl back in the day. But now they have gone and re-relesed them on coloured vinyl...sssooooo I had to get both of them as well I tracked down Omega Conspiracy on blue vinyl

I need to STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!...Nah fuk that

I stick mostly to studio albums and the occasional live album if I like the band well enough. That's expensive enough for me.

Oh, I'm even more fanatical than that, especially with certain bands. Not only do I want all the live albums but I search out bootleg live albums as well.

When you have such a large collection, you have no choice but to seek out the rare stuff. You have everything else already.

Hahaha yea your not alone here.

I listen to tons of different bands but the bands I try to collect the most of are, Helloween, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden and occasionally Metallica and Weezer. Helloween being the biggest one out of my whole collection. I even went as far one time to purchase some magazine clippings on ebay with Helloween stuff. I only did that once though. I'm still trying to build that collection up. I have a few posters, records, cassettes, doubles on some cds etc.

i'm this way with certain bands. have to have everything. not just music either, i'll grab dvds, t-shirts, posters, etc.

i'm glad i don't care much for Kiss, or i'd probably be bankrupt by now.

Oh crap I forgot Kiss too but I haven't gone that far with it. I have a few figures and various other things but not the whole collection. Some of that stuff is pointless, but I bet Sebastian Bach has it all. haha

Up until a year ago, if I had just one album from any band, no matter how much I liked them or not, I would try to get all the studio albums to complete my collection. I've slowed down since then. Thankfully, Live albums, compilations, and E.P., don't do a thing for me.

Like FF, I used to be more that way. I'm much more sane now, or just too poor.

I too suffer from the completist mentality. Discovering new bands is a scary situation for me and my disposable cash flow.

i suffer from it with certain bands but have been fighting the problem with all the music i listen to...

Certain bands I feel compelled to seek out everything - but I'm also a real cheapskate about it. I think a lot of the fun these days is scoring that e.p. or vinyl for a good price. The thrill tends to be in the hunt. I've gotten good over the years about not having to get everything "right now". I collect a lot more patiently today.

good way of phrasing it. I mean - do I really need the Kiss lawn fertilizer and seed???

I used to be like that, and yes, I hade a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge KISS collection, counting several pressings of the same albums on vinyl. If one said Norway, and one said Sweden, I had to have them all. I think I've owned at least 6 different versions of Destroyer! I also had Kiss watch, Christmas tree ornament, several dolls, a tie, boxer shorts, etc. etc.

I also collected all things Metallica, and used to buy all the CD singles and whatnot. I stopped some time during the Reload era, when every single came in three different versions... in each country!!!! Owning 6 versions of "Until It Sleep". to have yet another live version of a song became too much, so i stopped.

I sold a lot of that stuff when I decided to dump all the vinyl. So out went autographed Savatage LP's, shaped HammerFall picture EP's and a lot of other rare stuff, along side all the "excess" stuff like Kiss bootlegs and whatnot.

Now I mostly collect all CD's by bands, including compilations and live albums. Some bands I also collect singles from, but only if they come with non-album tracks.

The only band I hunt down as much as I can from is Ultimatum. They still have an comprehensive amount of material out to collect.
