If that live thing is Twas The Night Of A Helish Xmas, whoever put out this reissue should be stabbed. Easily the worst official live album I've ever heard.

I can't believe Metal Blade actually put that piece of crap out. I was ticked when I actually spent money on that horrendous recording.

It's absurd. There's no justification for it, really. It's that bad. Even the artwork sucks.
Well, it is still a cool release because I don't own those two albums, so I guess I'm going to own that crappy live performance. But hey, it can serve as a beer coaster as I'm jammin' the other discs!
Is the dvd just a live show or is there other stuff like vids on there as well?
So, I picked this up today and the first thing I did was pop in the DVD to see what type of quality it was. Pretty much equal to the live CD (which I haven't heard, but am basing it off what you guys have said) There didn't seem to be too much if any enhancements. And, it is just the concert, there is no other content. I don't really see myself putting this on ever again.
But, it was definitaley worth it for the albums, because I didn't own them and it was a good price!

I disagree. It's a bootleg. A pretty good one, with a good track listing from their peak. It's not doctored up like 90% of the "live" metal albums are.

Great live band.
It sounds like complete and total crap! I don't care what the song listing is. It's un-listenable. Doctored up or not, the recording quality itself is quite poor.
It's not a bootleg. It's an official release on Metal Blade Records. I have tons of bootlegs by bands that sound better than that Metal Blade Records release.

I'm a HUGE Helstar fan, so I'll buy this eventually.
Yo Dave, this is the gig on the DVD. Just a side note, the tracklisting is wrong on the cover and since there really are no enhancements I wasn't able to skip right to this song. (I didn't know where the song was at and every time I tried to hit the next chapter button on my DVD player it would just stop the DVD ) I ended up having to fast forward through to finally get to it.
After playing it on my DVD player again, I realized that this clip on youtube actually sounds better. So, I put the DVD into my computer and listened to Baptized in Blood again. It doesn't sound too bad. Is it great, no, but it is a bootleg video.
My conclusion, it works well if you want to watch and listen to it on a computer (I have a 2.1 speaker system connected to it), but on a big screen TV with a 5.1 surround system? Forget it. It definitely does capture how well they are live.
Cheers! I guess I'll pick this up eventually. As long as the quality is better than on the DVD that came with the Awaken the Guardian rerelease, it's all fine and dandy with me.
The box set is cheap enough to make the purchase worth for me, bad bootleg quality or not. Amazing band with some of the most insane riffing on that Nosferatu album.
Found this one new in Paris for less than 9 Euros so i had to pick it up, only because it contains a distant thunder, which is the only Helstar album still missing from my collection, and one that is impossible to come by.
Thank you for bumping this. I ordered this from Amazon and just got my copy. Nosferatu has been on my want list for like a decade.
I tend to have mixed feelings about Nosferatu. Despite it ranking at the top of the Helstar catalogue, it was never an easy listen for me. The music therein is a bit too complicated and not so memorable, unlike some of their other outputs.
After listening to both albums in this compilation for awhile, I prefer Nosferatu.
"Aieliaria and Everonn" is amazing. And the "Curse Has Passed Away", and several others. "To Sleep, Per Chance to Scream". I also love the movie clips. A great listen.
A Distant Thunder is also great. More straight forward, catchy, but high energy and powerful. Real good sounding recording as well.
