Is that a CD release Manny?

I used to have Rock Hard on vinyl and even the vinyl is going for $26 on Amazon; they don't even have it on CD.

Yes, I've got all the albums from 1969-1974. Red was the album that initially got me interested in this era of the band.

Crimson is one of those groups that I usually prefer the live recordings to studio, they did so much improv that many of the live albums reach a level of excitement and a "walking on the edge" feel to the solos, which make them even more exciting. That's why I love the King Crimson Kollectors Club releases.

I am probably the only one but I find 'Red' the weakest of 69-74..I even listen to 'Islands' more...actually that album is pretty great except for 'Ladies of the Road' but eh.

Live stuff..I'd like to find something with a similar setlist and quality to the 'USA' live album, which supposedly is not all LIVE..

The "actual" concert has been released on "The Collectable King Crimson Vol. 1", a 2-CD set of live performances from 1974. When the USA album was being compiled, they realized that David Cross' violin was in-audible in some of the sections so they brought Eddie Jobson into the studio (the band had broken up by this point) to re-record the violin parts. The album was a contractual obligation to their US record label at the time.

Years later they found an alternate master where Cross' violin parts were audible, so the original concert was restored as "Live In Asbury Park". It's far superior to the USA album.

The "Islands" band is actually my favorite. I've been in the process of collecting anything I can from the 1972 tour.

In addition, if you like that '74 era I'd recommend getting the 2-CD set "The Nightwatch".

That Boz lineup was always getting snubbed in prog realms so much I had to check them out. "Isands" is a nice mellow album that is not like anything that came before or definitely after it. There are so many bootlegs(official and non-official) of that lineup that it is pretty amazing and they do sound GREAT live... it made me a fan of the Boz-fronted Crimson.

Red is still my fave.....

Well, that's no surprise to me that they would be excellent in those other recordings..I always felt like Boz was the best Crimson vocalist despite appearing on one studio album.

'Lizard' is probably my favorite however..
