PostSubject: Hey Stryper/Vinyl Collectors - Question For Ya!!   Hey Stryper/Vinyl Collectors - Question For Ya!! Icon_minitimeFri Apr 09, 2010 11:52 am

I'm asking this question on behalf of a co-worker, who brought in a stack of his old records to show me this morning. He lived in LA during the '70s and '80s and worked in a record store so he sez he's got "tons of weird stuff" that he's currently re-organizing. He just got a USB turntable so he's in the midst of transferring the bulk of his collection to MP3.

So anyway, out of the pile he brought in to show me, one particular record jumped out at me -- a still-sealed copy of the original version of Stryper's YELLOW AND BLACK ATTACK. What makes it even more interesting is that it's a copy of the "first pressing" where the artwork was improperly cropped, so that the "hand of God" is almost missing and the initials on Robert Sweet's "rocket" are not shown. There's a sticker on the wrapper that sez "limited edition colored vinyl" too, though obviously since the record is unopened, I have no idea what color the vinyl is.

You can't hotlink to pix on Scott's NLTM site but the version I am talking about is shown here, with the corrected second pressing next to it for comparison:
http://www.nolifetilmetal.com/stryper_records.htm

I told the guy he might have a real collectible on his hands with this one, though I had no idea of its actual value.
Soooooo....any idea how much this puppy might be worth? I told the guy I'd ask around and see if the vinyl experts here could give him an idea. Laughing

Any help would be appreciated!!!

No idea. I acquired my copy very cheap. I'll bet Roxx would be interested in this item.

I saw a copy of this at a record show a couple weekends ago. It was selling for under $20. However, it may be worth slightly more if it really is colored vinyl and if it is sealed. Of course, the only way to know if it really is colored vinyl is to open it. LOL!

I never even knew the original pressing was released on colored vinyl. Bill from Roxx would know for sure.

Hey Freddy,

That one is worth a little bit more, especially sealed! It is a Yellow vinyl record inside that sealed Package.

I have seen that First pressing on Yellow vinyl on eBay go for anywhere from $20 to $40 for a perfect copy. But a sealed copy might add a few more bucks on to it!

I'm looking at the Enigma Catalog sheet right now and it looks like the misprinted vinyl had 5000 copies made and it doesn't mention how many were the yellow vinyl, I heard before that 1000 of the 5000 were on yellow vinyl.

Here is a picture of the misprint of both yellow and black vinyl along side the reprinted black vinyl...

PS: I would be interested in acquiring it for the collection if he is up for a sale PM me Wink

Hey Bill:
Thanks for the scoop... when I get back to work on Monday I'll ask the guy if he's interested in giving that record up, if so, I'll contact ya...

OK, So I decided to test my theories and knowledge on this one when I saw one of these pop up on eBay. Either I got REALLY lucky, or there really is not that much interest.

I won this near mint copy with the cellophane packaging still on it for $8!
