I have the same problem with a lot of the Euro power metal bands that came up during the late '90s/early '00s (i.e. HammerFall, Primal Fear, Iron Savior, etc.) -- they all started out very strong on their first album or two, but after that they all started making the same album over and over and over again.
Same here. I think that "sameness" is what drove me out of the power metal genre.

I think if you listen to enough of the genre, then bands and each of their albums will become more distinct. It's just that we expect each to sound different, but surely there aren't that many ways for a power metal band to diversify. Everything has been pretty much covered, much like any other genre to be fair.

I'd like to hear a power metal band with bagpipes.

Yeah I would. I love bagpipes.
Wolfstone is about the closest thing to bagpipe power metal that I've found.

Ugg, not me. Sounds like the dying gasp of a mortally wounded moose. The only time I liked bagpipes in music was AC/DC's 'It's a Long Way To The Top...' and maybe an occasional Dropkick Murphy tune. But I gotta have a few pints in me first.
Doesn't Grave Digger or Running Wild use some bagpipes in their music? Seems like that would be their bag.

Grave Digger certainly does (although the song name and the album escapes me right now). As for Iron Savior, I only have Unification and I like it (notthing spectacular, but certainly not terrible). I would like to get more of theirs eventually

Gotta be this album, right?
It's got bagpipes right there on the cover.
And so I'm not hijacking this thread...I don't think I've ever heard Iron Savior

I posted a full song. Did you check it out?
I understand that this band is not for everybody.
I'm a power metal freak though, so stuff like this appeals to me like a little lamb would to a wolf.

Bagpipes are NOT power metal! They have their place in music, but NOT in power metal. I've seen Iron Savior play live, and they rock!

I think bagpipes are awesome period.
Every St. Pat's I break out Wicked Tinkers and that's nothing but traditional Celtic percussion and bagpipes. I love it but when I drive around with that blaring in the car, people look at me like I'm nuts.

I like some Celtic rock. The Electrics are my favorite band in that style.

I have that album! Grave Digger is the lone exception to the BP rule, IMO. They make it work somehow.
