I bought Masters of War but I didn't realize until two years later it was all Bob Dylan covers. Great album tho!

Torture (Their only album, Storm Alert, originally released in 1989, was reissued not too long ago. Excellent thrash album)

What style of thrash does Torture play? Is it more melodic thrash (Metallica/Megadeth/Heathen/Testament) or brutal thrash (Sepultura/Kreator/Dark Angel/Demolition Hammer)? Or is it somewhere in between?

A friend of mine used to by Magnum picture discs, because the artwork was so cool! We never listened to the music on them though
The song you posted was very good though. Is that Bob Catley singing?

Bob Catley is the only singer they've had I believe. Great band. 'On a Storyteller's Night' is my favourite album.
Good version, but not as good as the studio version.

Correct. Bob Catley is their singer and has been since their first album came in 1978. Most of their album artwork is done by Rodney Matthews so yes it is great!

By the way, Kmorg -- I hope that as my Raven Discography Thread rolls along, that it inspires you to add some Raven to Metal Metropolis.

Three of these bands are on Darkstar Records. I was part of their Gothicfest festival twice -- I tried to get Ultimatum and Saviour Machine for this one. I followed Fashion Bomb, Empyrean Sky, Grigori 3, and Howling Syn since their Mp3.com days. I know Jeff Swanson personally over the years -- he's the reason I got noticed as a publisher in Chicago and DuPage County.
Bloodstream Parade -- This could be Ultimatum's evil twin. (Pick up Apocalypse In Retrospect. I AM THE NIGHT is a track that could easy been one that gives GAME OVER run for it's money. I know Wolf from the band via myspace.)
Fashion Bomb -- their new album is a dark dystopia feel and has female nudity in their artwork but to a full dark effect. Val sounds like an Industrial Metal prophet of doom on this new one. They have two albums and label mates with Faster Pu$$ycat.
(I never got into their hair metal years, but I am trying to track down their Gothic Metal era since my ex-room mate follows them.)
I caught Fashion Bomb twice when they played -- I was dodgy the second time they played because I was trying to avoid the room mate. They shared a bill with a very young industrial metal called Deadstar Assembly.
Godhead -- progressive rock guised as Industrial Metal. I have their first album but I am meaning to get the rest of their catalog. Another one I found via Mp3.com -- but my CD collection almost has no room to go anywhere right now
Disonic -- The Value Of Truth (african fronted heavy metal bands that uses Queensryche type guitars. The vocalist has a soaring vocal like Iron Maiden.)
Empyrean Sky -- The Snow White Rose Of Paradise (this guy's range is almost impossible to pull off. Death Metal vocals along with the Queensryche Shakespherean vocals and lyrics. They're now a four piece, but when they did the CD -- you're going to be asking where the [[bleep]] is the drummer.)
Howling Syn -- Forebearers of Dusk and Devilries
DAATH
MUSHROOMHEAD
Grigori 3 -- Exile (listen to this one and you will see why. I am friends with Ray and Gwendy. I almost know them as much as I know Ray Parra of Sacred Warrior. My copy of Exile was given to me personally by Ray and Gwendy as a birthday present.)
Ion Vein -- progressive metal from Chicago.
Novembers Doom -- just give this one a listen and you will see why. They're a band from Chicago that does the Death Doom style metal but they take it to a whole new level. The CD "The Knowing" is the death doom metal version of The Wall.
I agree with Vexer6 with a few bands, but Nickleback? Godsmack you might want to throw up there because they're connected to Meliah Rage. I own the CD where Sully handles the drum duties.

Pentagram -- I heard their song Relentless by Earthen Grave (Scott this is another one you need to add. Earthen Grave is a doom metal supergroup in Chicago with Scott Davidson of Rebel Radio fame on drums and Rachel Barton Pine playing the violin.)
St. Vitus, I heard many good things about that band in recent years. Wino is an important figure in doom metal along with Trouble. The vocalist of Trouble has a disk out with his new band. Add Darkstar Records on Myspace for more information. Tell Jeff you were talking to Nick.
One of the other bands I picked up these days is My Silent Wake because they sound like Paul and Novembers Doom in some ways. I did a huge review of their most recent CD on VampireFreaks.com.

High on Fire. Yes. I need to get some.
Saint Vitas, Pentagram, Sheavy. Blue Cheer. Yup. Need some.
Goliath? Is that Mick Rowe's band?
HOUNDS OF HASSELVANDER? Is that a Joe Hasselvander's side project?
Iron Butterfly and Atomic Rooster. I have some CDs that I need to add.
I've tried to get into Alice in Chains. They just don't do it for me.

Disturbed -- Indestructable (Scott you were asking when Disturbed would be that band they wanted to be -- this album is it. The new album shreds.)
Pass on TOOL, Scott -- that is the band that I am trying to cross my Thrash Metal/Aggrotech act with (AVARICE is a band I am trying to form -- using METALLICA style thrash with TOOL/Industrial type vocals. Fashion Bomb cites them. Lateralus is my favorite album of theirs but I want the album that came out before that because of the attitude with it -- borrowed from Billy Hicks' Arizona Bay routine. TOOL is a band that is one of those you have to listen to on their own terms. VOIVOD's Piggy was photographed with a TOOL shirt on live.a I love TOOL for the fact what they said about Limp Bizkit CDS -- Limp Bizkit CDS are good for drink coasters. Maynard actually challenged Durst to fist fight in a boxing ring. Durst is scorned in Chicago -- someone actually pitched a lemon at his testicles 100 MPH. Someone from the Chicago White Sox was in the audience for their show -- my guitarist on Clay and Dust actually auditioned for Limp Bizkit but Durst gave him the finger when the guitarist was doing an Iced Earth style guitar playing.)
Deadstar Assembly -- I actually met this band, very young and talented act that merges industrial with heavy metal. I actually got in the air to one of their tracks at Logan Square Auditorium. The bassist is a film maker.
Coarse of Empire (Industrial Metal act with two double bass drummers.)
Stonehenge -- Shadows (This band you'll like Scott. They merge Groove Metal with Doom Metal. They have the post-apocalyptic lyrics.)
A Perfect Circle -- this one you might not like either but they are an accquired taste.
3 Headed Monster -- Instrumental Thrash Metal (getting their CD next month.)
PANTERA -- FAR BEYOND DRIVEN (this is my favorite Pantera album)
PANTERA -- REINVENTING THE STEEL (listen to Revolution In My Name) I saw Pantera in Chicago on one of their final shows. My older cousin was actually photographed with Dime while he was still alive back in the day.
Ann Boleyn -- Queen of Hell (This is a limited edition from her record label. A female fronted metal band named Hellion that did the melodic style metal like Iron Maiden.)
Megace -- female fronted metal act that sounds like VOIVOD. Picture Voivod doing Killing Technology with a female vocalist. She sounds like a female version of Snake. They're from Germany. They have INNER WAR on amazon.com. They disbanded in 2001 but members are in a new band -- I don't know their name off hand.
DEAD SOUL TRIBE -- this is just one guy doing everyting. Iron Maiden style guitars over a Maiden-into-TOOL style vocal (that's how I can describe the track COMING DOWN. ) Very eerie but cool. It's one of those holy f*** kind of things -- you have to hear it to believe it Devin Graves is a pen name for another band vocalist. It's downright frightening especially over the Televangalist preaching, my guitarist turned me onto this band.
Grave Robber -- Inner Sanctum (Scott, your labelmate on Retroactive. I heard their Black Sabbath cover and they nailed it -- Children of the Grave. They're punk that came off heavy metal!)
Add SLEEP -- I had one of their albums on tape. They sound like Sabbath.
Konquest (they're On CDBaby.com)
Rain Fell Within -- good luck getting their albums. They're all out of print. Doom Metal with a siren vocal. I have Refuge by them. They have a song about 9/11/2001 that's very dark and menacing.
A reader pointed me to them sometime in 2002 when I told thim I am getting into Novembers Doom (get THE KNOWING -- it's a concept album. The Death Doom equal to THE WALL.) Stormbringer goes for $60.00 now, but the other albums you can still grab. Good luck getting this one -- they will pull for $80.00. TYR by Black Sabbath is going for $200.00 on Amazon.com.
Novembers Doom and Rain Fell Within were label mates on Dark Symphonies -- Novembers Doom's singer wrote a book going with one of his albums. I first heard Shadows of Light and I was blown away. The Knowing doesn't just growl -- they've got parts that actually echo ALICE IN CHAINS on some tracks. Amazing CD, great band if you like My Silent Wake. Empyrean Sky and Earthen Grave both played a show with Novembers Doom. I know Novembers Doom via John of Empyrean Sky.
Emily Autumn (this is a solo violinist but she plays metal on the violin like The Great Kat.)
Withering Soul -- Apparitions of the Surreal (Paranormal Metal. I shared a billing with them three times. Very eerie metal lyrics. Mykil has a vocal that sounds like a ghost in the room with his growl into Doom Metal vocal. They're a five piece now but when they recorded this album they were a three. Consisting of Mykil and his brother, and a drummer. They use Black Metal for the blue print for their sound. I am not going to throw up their cover here because it shows full female frontal nudity. My copy is signed by the band. You can see t*ts on the chick artwork -- cool ghoulish artwork though.)
The Great Kat -- I heard Metal Messiah by her on a compilation along with Megadeth and Slayer. I was blown away when I realized she was doing the thrashing on an electric violin or doing classical on an electric guitar. The other band that does the instrumental violin parts is Earthen Grave. She's got one of those unique personalities in heavy metal -- think the female version of Ozzy when he first bit the head off a live bat. She's got the BDSM look (and she's HOT) as to FEAR OF GOD'S Dawn Crosby's tormented poet delivery, Gwendy's Gothic Industrial Metal Siren Throat, or Rain Fell Within's Opera trained Siren Vocal (yes the vocalists on this band are Opera trained like Eric Clayton of Saviour Machine.)
