I concur It was hard not to notice those types of bands hanging around Hollywood all through the 80's. Lots of great musicians, no doubt. Too many compromised (IMHO) jumping on the image thing to make it. I never could get myself to put on either make-up or spandex just to play in some band. Believe it or not Slayer wore just as much make up and spandex as any glam band when they first popped up. I enjoy catchy melodic tunes alot, especially if they toss in some harmony vocals. The more parts the better. _________________

OCI, WTF are you talking about? All of the hair metal band albums I own are best of/greatest hits compilations. I never really got interested enough to purchase individual studio albums. Maybe one day I'll get old and soft myself

OCI, WTF are you talking about? 'something' = other music (already established as the main idea of thread and post), 'filter' = how said music is heard/processed also your mama that's right..what are you going to do?

| While I didn't care too much for Nelson, I loved Cinderella, Ratt, Motley Crue, Poison, and Warrant. Obviously, it's alot easier to admit this now being an adult (in age) and not caring about what others think. The one thing that does bother me though, when people ask me now what type of music I like and I tell them metal, they come back with those aforementioned bands. I'm like, well yes, but also alot of heavier bands you've never heard of. | |

| I generall have progressively listened to this stuff less and less over the years, not that its all bad (Slaughter & Winger still suck hahahaha). JUst one of those genres where alot of it was so two dimensional I can't take alot of it constantly anymore. | |

| I dug out an old XYZ cassette earlier this evening. They remind me of alot of different bands in one aspect or another. Easy to figure out why Don Dokken produced it. _________________ | |

| I know I am. I would sooner crank out some Night Ranger and Place Vendome/Kiske solo rather than the Darkthrones, Cannibal Corpses of my H.S. years. | |

| I guess it's no secret 99% of my favorite music falls under this "Hair Metal" tag, which I can't stand that term, because nobody takes the groups seriously like just good hard rock n' roll. A lot of hard rockers back in the day always put softer stuff down because it seemed like the cool thing to do. Guys dressing up, big hair, tattoos, leather, make-up made 80's hard rock music pop music, it sold albums, it brought all the pretty girls to the shows, and once you have the girls liking you the sky's the limit. When the girls stopped liking hair metal they journeyed over to hip hop and paved the way for grunge to take over as the featured rock of choice. Grunge didn't kill Hair Metal, Rap Hop did, because the pretty boys of rock started getting old and ugly. I could care a less what Bret Michaels, Jani Lane, Tom Keifer and all the rest of the famed hair singers look like, back in '83 it started for me because of the music, and today that remains true, it's all about the music for me. I go to some Guns N' Roses boards and admit I'm a Poison fan or Warrant fan and believe me, I get the shaft. Most GN'R fans seem to think GN'R don't fall under the "Hair" category but for me their music is hard rock just like most of the other hard rock of the 80s. Just because Slash puts down hair bands, don't make him the next Jimmy Page. Guess I've always been "soft" as compared to the "real" heavy metal. | |
