In the 80's I hated pop metal bands like Warrant, Winger, Slaughter, Europe, etc. However, in recent years I've found myself enjoying a lot of these bands.

I saw Slaughter in 1999 and was blown away. Became a fan that night. Discovered that there was much more to them than just "Fly to the Angels".

Warrant's "Cherry Pie" is actually a good album. Sure they looked like a bunch of homos in spandex, but the songs overall aren't bad at all. I'm even enjoying their less pop albums like "Ultraphobic". Go figure?

I've always liked the "hair metal" bands and I've always stuck up for "Cherry Pie". Tell me Uncle Tom's Cabin doesn't smoke.

As long as you don't start listening to Air Supply it's all good, Ult. I'm getting softer in my old age... Icon_lol

I never had a problem with hair metal. I liked a lot of it, even during my big "thrash phase" in the late 80s I still dug stuff like Cinderella and White Lion right alongside Overkill, Megadeth, etc.

Warrant were a "late discovery" for me too. I had pretty much ignored them during their hey day but about ten years ago I came across a used copy of CHERRY PIE on the cheap, thought "ehhh, what the hell, 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' was a pretty damn good song..." and bought it. I expected to only dig that song, but was actually surprised at how good the rest of that album was. I still don't care for their debut (DIRTY ROTTEN FILTY STINKING RICH or whatever it's called) but since then I've also collected their DOG EAT DOG and ULTRAPHOBIC discs and enjoy 'em both as well.

Never did care for Slaughter though. That guy's voice just goes right thru me. Saw'em live once and it was pure torture.

Never liked hair metal, and I can't see it ever happening. I don't like much hard rock type of stuff.

I have been enjoying straight up death metal less these days, though. But on the other hand I have been liking more grindcore.

I've been adding to my old school country collection lately. Saw Willie last month & I'm going to see Merle Haggard tonight. I got to meet & eat lunch with Ray Price a few months ago & that resparked my intrest in old school country for some reason.

I'll never ever enjoy the lets-get-it-on/partyyyy sound & lyrics (Whitesnake being an exception, but I still can't bring myself to go repurchase remasters, etc), but I do find myself discovering more and liking more as time goes on. It really just takes a little bit of trying to understand something on it's own terms firstly, for the filter to start to expand and also be more thorough, and then it will keep on going.

I have lotsa fond memories of hair metal, listening to it and going to the shows back in the day. Still like to give it a spin from time to time, but it certinaly doesn't get the play it used to.

I've always enjoyed good hair metal and I've always condidered Jani Lane to be an under-rated songwriter. Saw Slaughter and Winger open for KISS on the KISS HITS tour. A lot of fun.

If I may make a recommendation, it's not hair metal, but the new Winger is excellent. The latest cd from Warrant, Born Again, with Jaime St. James from Black N Blue on lead vocals is really good too.

Speaking of Black N Blue, they were a pretty decent band in their own right. Their self titled debut is an '80s fave of mine. Still have it on vinyl!

Like FF, MG and Jball, I have always like hair/pop metal, I never sold it down the river even when I got into heavier bands and extreme metal bands, and I used to get a lot of grief for liking both Nirvana and White Lion.

I like a lot of it, some of it more now than ever. I'm discovering the bands I missed back then in my "brutal era" that were less known like American Angel, Tyketto, Babylon A.D. etc... and I LOVE that Slaughter - Fear No Evil album. Crap, that's good.

europe is as pop metal as motorhead or kiss are metal.....

especially early europe was the band that influenced a lot of people learning to play some strings. no wonder why michaelli/leven/haugland(to name a few) are some of the most wanted pay'n'play musicians. on the contrary, i only see $$$ the strongest reason of mr. dee being in motorhead(for example).

time to listen to some "pop metal"....a big hit in the circuit of european discos....

Hair Metal??? LOVE IT! There's nothing like the FUN, "NOTHING BUT A GOOD TIME" feel you get from listening to it... SO MUCH better than most of the depressing stuff that is popular today. I'm getting softer in my old age... 4782

I feel like I'm doing the opposite. I was all about hair metal. Most of the heavy stuff was from the Big Four. But now I feel like I'm catching up on on the harder stuff that I missed back in the day.

Count me in!!!

As much as I love the heavy stuff -- I also have a soft spot for some good glam metal and hard rock/AOR.

I'm like Manny in that I also got into some more alternative stuff too.

Heck, I was into White Lion, Nirvana and Slayer all at the same time.

A lot of my friends just never understood. I told them that I was just 'me'.

Nowadays it's a lot more accepted to like a variety. But back in the late 80s/early 90s, some metalheads would nearly stone you to death. I was called 'poseur' at school because one day I'd wear my Slayer shirt and the next day I'd wear my Poison shirt.

Then I'd throw them all through a loop the next day cause I'd wear my Depeche Mode shirt.

I'm getting softer in my old age... Lol

But I can always tell who my true friends are. They accept me for who I am -- rather than trying to change me to fit into their little mold.
