Doom Metal essentials

to me, "stoner" is more about mood than actual sound. I tend to lean towards bands that have some groove to their sound...for instance, "Dunwich" by Electric Wizard is funky as hell. Kyuss had that groove, Sleep to a lesser degree...ALL of Wino's bands have groove mixed in with the doom.

I have nothing against the Candlemass school, it's just not my preference.

yeah i know its a cliche but everytime i hear something about Doom metal, i hear the riff from Black Sbbath

My top would be Candlemass, St. Vitus, Trouble, Sunn O))) and a few lesser known - Forsaken - from malta, Doomenicus, Remember November, Last Chapter, and Visionaire.

Doom Fans Check Out Sawol coming soon as is the new My Silent Wake!

Everyone should check out The Lamp of Thoth. Imo they are one of the best doom metal bands of the last ten years or so.
