| 29 years ago some damn idiot who's name I won't mention murdered John Lennon. While this scum may have killed the man, thankfully the music John Lennon created as both a member of the Beatles and as a solo artist, will live forever. Even if you are not a fan of Lennon, one cannot deny the impact Lennon had as both a musician and cultural icon. | |

| I actually remember when I heard about this on the radio. We were on the way to my Dad's birthday dinner when I was 6. This date has mixed emotions for me. Either way, John was a musical genius and for that I celebrate his legacy.

| Chapman was a disturbed individual...truly. And Lennon, while a looming figure in music and movement, I feel has always just been an eence over hyped. You can have your 'Imagine" with it's cheesy picture book sentiment, I'd rather listen to "Mother" or 'Woman is The Ni66er Of The World".... I think when we have a truly wonderous entitiy such as this, when they die....the hype just grows and grows and eventually all the wonderous and cool things about that person are forgotten.... Ask the next 20something you meet, WHY LENNON or MARLEY were such great figures....and I bet they'll stammer a little before answering. _________________ "Oh man, I need TV? When I got T Rex"

Someone's been listening to Denis Leary. I was 10 when Lennon was murdered. I didn't know much about him or the Beatles at the time but my Mom was a big fan so I remember it hit her pretty hard. She pulled out her whole stack of Beatles records and played them endlessly for a couple of days. Over the years of course I eventually learned what an important figure he was. Nowadays John's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" is one of my favorite holiday tunes, despite the presence of Yoko Ono in it. I think I mentioned this last year during the annual "John Lennon Died On This Date" thread, but back around '94 or '95 I happened to be in New York City on the anniversary date of Lennon's death so I stopped briefly at the "Strawberry Fields" area in Central Park where fans gather every year to cry, sing songs, light candles, etc... I'm sure all the hippies wondered what this six-and-a-half foot guy in a leather jacket and Savatage t-shirt was doing there crashing their love fest, but I must say it was pretty cool to be part of that for just a little while. That was kinda my way of making up for a year or two previous, when some drunken friends and I got shoo'd away from the front of the Dakota Building by the doorman for standing around on the sidewalk screaming "YOKO! YOKO! YO-KOOOOOO!" at the tops of our lungs... _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

My wife & I did a similiar thing a few years ago. We were in NYC and just happened upon the little tribute that was going on that day. I took a cool black & white picture of it that I have hanging behind my bar. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. "Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead... and we can't get Jon Bon Jovi into a helicopter? GET ON THE HELICOPTER, JON! THERE'S A HAIRDRESSER ON THE HELICOPTER!" Meanwhile, not that I'm trying to drag this thread off topic but didn't Dimebag Darrell bite it on this date as well? _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

When I got my son's hair cut earlier this week, I noticed that the barber had a nice photo of the "IMAGINE" mosaic on the sidewalk there with a rose in the middle of it hanging on the mirror in front of his work station. He told me he put that rose there and took a pic when he visited it years ago. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

You are correct, sir. 5 years ago today. I'd start a seperate thread, but I know how he and his former band brings out the hatred in some folks. I like the guy, so I'd prefer not to read about what an "over-rated scumbag" he was. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | Big Beatles fan-boy here. However, it was just a coincindence that the wife & I were in NYC on the anniversary of his death. It didn't dawn on me till we got near Central Park and we saw a big group of people standing around with guitars, candles, flowers, etc. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | Yes, this was one of many famous musicians that have suffered such a fate. R.I.P John Lennon. Screw you for writing that awful Christmas song I am forced to listen to every year. | |

| Mark David Chapman is up for parole (again)... he's been turned down five times in the last ten years, somehow I doubt that he'll get out this time either http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100809/ap_en_mu/us_chapman_parole#mwpphu-container _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Like Sharon Osborne, I will very rarely speak positively on the actions of Yoko, however in this instance, I firmly support her efforts to keep this douche-nozzle behind bars. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was.
