I've got three albums by these guys, have listened quite a bit, and still don't know what to make of them. They seem to be from California, but they sound more like a swamp band. Molly Hatchet crossed with 16 HP or something, although not as good as either of those. Strange band.

Spinning this one again and I stand by my description. It's like Jon Vangelis sat down with early Sonata Arctica and said "You know what would make your band stand out from the hordes of super-melodic power metal bands out there? ME! Add some spacey synths/keyboards into the mix and throw in a dash of the choir vocals from Dol Ammad. Oh, and instead of dungeons and dragons lyrics, think Star Trek."

I also really like the lead vocals. They're not the typical male "soprano" vox normally associated with power metal. I'm really diggin' this album and can't wait for the other one I ordered to arrive.

I like 'Journey of Souls' even better somehow. I named an AIM screen name after one of the songs on it.

My copy of Journey Of Souls should be here any day.

If it's as good as Heaven's Gate, I'll owe Exact a major "gracias" for introducing me to this band.

I'll have to look into Keldian for sure.

I'm totally sure I mentioned them or something to you before too though. I'm the best.

One more thing MB, you know how down I am on power metal these days. For the last year, if it ain't some form of punk, glam or sleaze, I couldn't be bothered.

But I love "Heaven's Gate".

Yeah, the samples I heard at Rock Island pretty much blew me away. I'm sold. Hook, line and sinker.

I love pretty much everything about this band - including the female vocals (which is normally is turn off for me). The best thing is each time you spin it you hear something new...

I have a Roky Erickson tribute album that has them on it along with ZZ Top, Primal Scream, Julian Cope, Richard Lloyd, REM, Butthole Surfers, Thin White Rope, Jesus & Mary Chain etc etc etc.

They sound interesting given your description.
