The DC/Virginia concert weekend kicks off in style with KISS (followed by Stryper, Metallica in Charlottesville, and AC/DC). Unfortunately, I was out of town and missed the other 3 shows. I would have been broke after that week of Metal!!!!!!!
KISS brought the Alive 35 Worldwide tour to the nation's capital with Buckcherry as openers. I don't have any Buckcherry CD's, but I will start collecting them after their set! Very good sleeze rock - I needed a penicillin shot after their show!!!! They played all their "hits" including "lit Up" and their version of "Highway Star", which really got the audience worked up.
Next, KISS hit the stage!!!!! The set list was OK, but when you have seen them a few times with makeup, they play alot of the same songs. But, it was AWESOME to hear "Parasite", "C'mon and love me", "Hotter Than Hell" and "got to choose" live. 100,000 years with drum solo/paul banter was even longer than the version on KISS Alive! and watching Eric being the drums shows how much of a better drummer than Peter he is.
The show was complete with pyro, smoke, rockets shooting at the lights (complete with the "light that falls" that Ace did post reunion.
I also bought the concert after the show. I opted for the USB wrist band because it is different and will be a nice add to my collection. For those questioning if it is the actually show, yes it is. This was the DC show. When you buy the USB wristband or CD< you only get the first 1/2 pf the show. They mail the 2nd half to you (via CD) or let you download it (if you bought the wristband). Pretty nice memory of the show. It was packed with people buying the show. They have TONS of cd burners on site to burn the concert.
I had good floor seats and I was right next to Paul's center stage he sues during "Love Gun"
The show it self - KISS was awesome, the stage was huge and feature a big ol video screen behind the band. As people have mentioned after watching the you tube videos of the live performances on Letterman, etc, Paul didn't sound that great. It really sounded like he had just gotten over a cold or a throat issue. Having watched the videos, he sounded better than the earlier shows which makes me think he was sick. If so, more power to Paul as he is a true professional. If you can catch KISS on the tour, it will be worth your time and money. They put on an AWESOME show!!!
Here's some pics I snapped with my crackberry:
