This is true, but it seems that when a band gets big enough, people seem to overlook the name, in a way. The name becomes more of a symbol.
If that makes sense.

Never cared for the band or it's name, but it made for one of my favorite quotes from the Simpsons:

"Hi, Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumkins"
"Hello. Homer Simpson, smiling politely"

laughing

One of my favorite Simpsons episodes right there.

Jaded '90s teen #1: "Ohhh, the Human Cannonball. HE'S cool."
Jaded '90s teen #2: "Are you being sarcastic?"
Jaded '90s teen #2: (pause) "I don't even know anymore."

I loved that joke up until some shitty pop punk band used Smiling Politely as their name. Not to mention the bubble machine, and all the Simpsons merch, like we didnt get the reference.

Even though I like the one album they did, Mutha's Day Out struck me as an odd name for a metal band (even a rap-metal one). Apart from that, all the good unusual names have already been mentioned.

From the more established ones, what about Accept? What were they thinking? Accept? Accept what? A metal band with a silly name?
