Subject: UGGG!!! I Have A Maggot Infestation Sat Jul 11, 2009 10:01 am
This month (middle of June til now) continues to get more crappy. Last night I was ready to shower before work and saw a bunch of little things on the bathroom floor. Looked closely and they were larvae. All over the bathroom floor, all over my bedroom floor, quite a few in the hallway, and a small number in half the living room, the study, and my dad's bedroom. I vacumed for the next hour trying to get them up and every time I was done more showed up. At this time I realized I have a phobia of maggots and couldn't calm down. At work all I could think of was what to do. I came home on break to get my wallet which I forgot in the confusion and vac'd some more (forgeting the wallet ), then I came home from lunch and did it again putting some sevin dust in the corner where most of them where which didn't kill any of them. I left it hoping that it would just take time. Got home and they were all over my room & bathroom again. I vaccumed them up again this time abandoning the vac on the back porch (I don't think they were escaping from there but I want to be sure). I've begun moving stuff out of the room and trying to find out where they're comming from and my sister will be comming over to help me so I think I've calmed down finally but I still have that creepy feeling. God, I hate maggots!
We had some bees around the side of the house and used the Sevin dust to kill them and my dad thinks these are the larvae leaving the hive because the bees are all dead but I'm not quite sure. Anybody here ever have this problem or am I one of the lucky ones?

Are you sure there isn't something dead under the house?

I think they're comming from the walls where the old bee hive is (we killed the bees but never removed it). According to some research, it's probably the larvae from a hive beetle which lays it's eggs in old honey combs and when the honey drips down it forces the maggots out where they're suppoded to find dirt to borrow in (I actually saw one trying to borrow itself in the carpet). My dad was trying to avoid the expense of getting the hive taken out but it looks like we have no choice.

Try setting off a fogger in every room. Those things seem to kill everything.

For some reason this thread title makes me think Destruction should write a song about it.

Either you're not burying the hookers in a deep enough grave or not using enough lime to cover them up. That usually solves the maggot problem and helps cover up the smell.

Sorry dude, but you're going to have to pay to get rid of this. Once they get to this point they can reproduce faster then you can get rid of them.

No, they are found only in my room and my bathroom (I believe they are comming from a common wall). I have contained them by leaving the lights on in both rooms and the leave the hallway light off which (I think they're attracted to the light-I tested this theory by turning on this little lamp and left it for a while and the majority of the maggots were hanging around the light of the lamp) has confined them to those rooms. I slept for about 7 hours and there were dozens in my room (none near the door) and about six in the bathroom and none in the hallway. I just need to vac them up every now and then and wait until the problem can be rectified.

We know that now, my sister convinced my dad to hire some proffesionals and they will be here Tuesday to access the situation. He explained that they have to remove some of the wall to get the old honeycomb and any unwanted pest out (which I hope means killing these little buggers, I miss taking showers in my shower-mine is spacey and has a hand held, my dad's is too confining and has a stationary nozzle).

The thread title sounded like the chorus of a Cannibal Corpse song.

My first exact thought when I read this!!
If you have an infection you can use them to clean out the dead flesh. There's your silver lining.

Maybe if they were fly maggots but I don't think it works with bee maggots. Even so, I'd rather use Neosporin.
I'm no longer super freaked out because I have them contained and they haven't been allowed to accumulate the way they did before. However, I can't make myself go without my boots near the two rooms and I doubt rice will be on the menu anytime soon (nor Rice a Roni because some of the ones in the bathroom are dark hued). To take a line from a Night Court episode and make it fit this situation: "It's like all the rice you ever ate comming back to haunt you."

You have to though, don't you? Either I can keep myself freaked out or take a lighthearted view of the situation.

If I had come home and found maggots all over the house...I would still be running.
