In all seriousness,

I've only had a limited exposure to Saxon. What I've heard seemed like typical, generic NWOBHM. Not really my favorite genre; nothing I'd really say sucks, but nothing I'd run out and buy either.

Am I missing something?

Indeed, those first 4 albums were great, and very important in NWOBHM. But if it's not you're thing, then I don't think you'll really get into them no matter what. However, Denim & Leather is a must have, even if you are just a casual fan.
