That Gothenburg Sound

Who is your favorite Gothenburg sounding artist?

I love Dark Tranquillity.

late 90's era In Flames followed closely by At the Gates

Dark Tranquillity is my favorite melodeath band. Awesome stuff. But I love many others.

Arch Enemy has some but mix up other sounds.

In the christian realm, Immortal Souls is pretty good.

Anyway, I'm not real keen on what bands fall into the "Gothenberg sound", but if Shadows Fall fit into that category, I'll pick them.

EDIT: I went to BNR Metal to investigate other bands that fall into the melodic death metal/Gothenberg category and I knew very few of the bands, so I'll stick with my vote of Shadows Fall.

Sentenced, Amorphis, and Mercenary are not melodeath. Haven't heard Amon Amarth or Insomnium, but are those more death metal?

We could argue styles all day but I don't want to. All of these get labeled melodeath by some. Meh.
AA and Insomnium would be fairly deathy.

Only melodic death metal album I really care for anymore is Heartwork by Carcass.

Amon Amarth is not 'melodeath'.

arch enemy. never really managed to get into the gothenburg sound and today i think it has become a parody of itseflf

It could be considered a parody, but like most styles there are the innovaters, the band wagon jumpers and those who come late to the party but sincerely love the sound.

nu - metal
death
gothenburg

when something new comes along the innvators sound new and refreshing yet when people come along and play similar music it becomes a case of same old same old
