PostSubject: Track by Track album battles   Track by Track album battles Icon_minitimeSun May 24, 2020 8:46 pm

I got the idea from youtuber Almost Human who takes two albums (usually with the same amount of songs, though he sometimes cheats and skips over instrumentals, intros, and the like) and then pits each track against each other, and the one which has the most songs he likes wins. I like the concept and figured I'd do the same with random albums from my collection, starting with Alice Cooper-Love it to Death vs Scorpions-Love at First Sting (again, I picked random albums, only concession is that they have the same amount of songs)

1. Caught in a Dream vs Bad Boys Running Wild. Bad Boys isnt bad, but CIaD is a classic IMO
2. I'm Eighteen vs Rock You Like a Hurricane. Kind of burned out on both songs, I guess Eighteen though
3. Long Way to Go vs I'm Leaving You. I like Long Way, but I'm Leaving You is kind of underrated IMO
4. Black Juju vs Coming Home. Sorry, but I could never get into Black Juju, Coming Home is pretty cool though.
5. Is It My Body vs The Same Thrill. Again, gotta go with the faster song.
6. Hallowed be my Name vs Big City Nights. Hallowed is an awesome early metal number, just as heavy as anything on the first two Sabbath albums. BCN is cool, but this is no contest
7. Second Coming vs As Soon as the Good Times Roll. Not really a big fan of either, guess the Scorpions
8. Ballad of Dwight Frye vs Crossfire. Ballad is a classic, Crossfire is just aplodding, hookless filler IMO.
9. Sun Arise vs Still Loving You. Sun Arise annoys me, Still Loving You easily wins here.

Winner: Scorpions, 5 to 4. Huh, didnt expect that. Feel free to do your own album battles, I'll do others later.

Next two: Megadeth-The System has Failed vs Metallica-Hardwired..To Self Destruct (2 disc version only):

1. Blackmail the Universe vs  Hardwired. Hardwired is heavier, but is lacking any memorable moments, I prefer the slightly more epic feel of Blackmail
2. Die Dead Enough vs Atlas Rise. Atlas Rise OTOH is much more memorable more enjoyable than Die Dead Enough which isnt that special (though still decent) IMO.
3. Kick the Chair vs Now That We're Dead. NTWD is good, but kind of plodding, Kick the Chair is more entertaining.
4. The Scorpion vs Moth Into Flame. Moth Into Flame is one of my fav songs on Hardwired, The Scorpion never really did much for me.
5. Tears in a Vial vs Dream No More. Dream No More is kind of bland, but Tears is an underrated number on System
6. I Know Jack vs Halo of Fire: I  Know Jack isnt much of a song, and I prefer Halo of Fire more anyway.
7. Back in the Day vs Confusion: I like Confusion, but Back in the Day is probably my fav track off System.
8. Something that I'm Not vs Manunkind. I like the feel of Manunkind more than Something which I kind of dull.
9. Truth be Told vs Here Comes Revenge. Neither is a favorite, but Truth Be Told is better IMO.
10. Of Mice and Men vs Am I Savage. Of Mice and Men is kind of commercial, but that's not really a bad thing for me, and Am I Savage is just dull for me.
11. Shadow of Deth vs Murder One. Shadow of Deth is another thing that's not really a song, but Murder One is my least fav song on Hardwired, so, I'm giving it to Shadow of Deth, believe it or not.
12. My Kingdom vs Spit Out the Bone. Spit Out the Bone is my fav song on the album, got to give it to that.

Winner: Megadeth, 7 to 5.

Next up are Sammy Hagar-Standing Hampton vs Quiet Riot-Metal Health

1. I'll Fall in Love Again vs Metal Health. While the Sammy song is pretty good, I'm going with the heavier and better Metal Health
2. There's Only One Way to Rock vs Cum On Feel the Noize. One Way to Rock is my favorite Hagar song, going with that one.
3. Baby's On Fire vs Battle Axe. Battle Axe is just a short instrumental, Hagar wins this one as well.
4. Cant Get Loose vs Slick Black Cadillac. Dont really care for either, but I'll go with Quiet Riot
5. Heavy Metal vs Love's a Bitch. Love's A Bitch is only ok, but Heavy Metal is a classic.
6. Baby It's You vs Breathless. Baby It's You is dull, especially compared to Breathless.
7. Surrender vs Run For Cover. Surrender is another meh song, but Run For Cover is a great speedy song.
8. Inside Lookin In vs Dont Wanna Let You Go. DWLYG is a boring ballad, Inside Lookin In is actually pretty cool.
9. Sweet Hitchhiker vs Lets Get Crazy. Both pretty cool, but I'll give the win to Sweet Hitchhiker.
10. Piece of My Heart vs Thunderbird. Thunderbird is underrated and deserves more love, I'm giving that one to QR.
Winner: Tie.

Point of Entry vs Ram it Down:

1. Heading Out to the Highway vs Ram it Down. Ram it Down is a fun song, but HOTtH is a better song.
2. Dont Go vs Heavy Metal. I didnt use to think much of Heavy Metal, but I appreciate it more on re-listens, and I'm going with that one.
3. Hot Rockin vs Love Zone. Love Zone is pretty much filler, I'll give it to Hot Rockin
4. Turning Circles vs Come and Get It. Not a real big fan of either, but I guess I'll give it to Turning Circles.
5. Hard as Iron vs Desert Plains. Hard as Iron is my fav song on RID, but Desert Plains (fav song on POE) is much better.
6. Solar Angels vs Blood Red Skies. Solar Angels is good, but I prefer the vibe Blood Red Skies is going for (kind of a sequel to Out in the Cold IMO)
7. You Say Yes vs I'm a Rocker. I actually like I'm a Rocker, unpopular as it is. You Say Yes is too cheesy even for me.
8. All the Way vs Love You To Death. All the Way, though neither is exceptional to be honest.
9. Troubleshooter vs Johnny B Goode. Just cant get into Troubleshooter, going to have to give this to the Chuck Berry cover.
10. On the Run vs Monsters of Rock. Monsters is too plodding, and On the Run is pretty underrated.
Another tie.

Mad Max-Stormchild vs Liege Lord-Master Control

1. Never Say Never vs Fear Itself. Never Say Never is more memorable.
2. Run for the Night vs Eye of the Storm. Eye of the Storm gives me a Priest vibe, love this song.
3. Lonely is the Hunter vs Master Control. Lonely isnt bad,but Master Control is an awesome speed metal tune.
4. Stormchild vs Kill the King. Stormchild is enjoyable, but Kill the King is a great cover, LL dont try to recreate Dio's vocals and they put their own spin on it.
5. Love Chains vs Soldier's Fortune. Love Chains does nothing for me, giving it to Soldier's Fortune.
6. Return of the Hunter vs Feel the Blade. Return is just a short instrumental, giving it to FTB.
7. Rollin the Dice vs Broken Wasteland. Rollin the Dice is just bland, Broken Wasteland is better, probably the best track on this album.
8. Restless Survivor vs Rapture. Tough call as both are good, but I'm giving this one to Mad Max (best song on this album).
9. Heroes Die Lonely vs Suspicion. I like Heroes Die Lonely, but Suspicion has a cool vibe to it.
10. Voices in the Night vs Fallout. Voices is boring, giving this one to Fallout.
Winner-Liege Lord 8 to 2

How about these two albums released in the same year (2007):

Helloween - Gambling with the Devil
Gamma Ray - Land of the Free, pt 2

Two albums that I love dearly. Two of the best albums either band put out since 1995. (since 1988 for Helloween). The Helloween CD came out in October, the Ray disc in November. And then they toured together.

Helloween-Gambling With the Devil vs Gamma Ray-Land of the Free 2:

1. Crack the Riddle vs Into the Storm. Crack is just a short intro, and Into the Storm is a cool song anyway.
2. Kill It vs From the Ashes. Kill It is a fun song, but From the Ashes is better with it's sweeping feel.
3. The Saints vs Rising Again. Rising Again is just a short intro, and The Saints is awesome, kind of has a Better Than Raw feel to it IMO.
4. As Long As I Fall vs To Mother Earth. The Helloween song is much more epic and memorable.
5. Paint A New World vs Rain. Both agressive speed metal, but Rain is better.
6. Final Fortune vs Leaving Hell. Final Fortune is filler IMO, Leaving Hell is pretty cool though.
7. The Bells of the 7 Hells vs Empress. Love the chugging riffs on Empress, I'm going with that one.
8. Fallen to Pieces vs When the World. Yet another one for Gamma Ray.
9. I.M.E. vs Opportunity. Love Opportunity, awesome epic track.
10. Can Do It vs Real World. It's kind of cheesy, but I prefer Can Do It.
11. Dreambound vs Hear Me Calling. Neither are great, but Hear Me Calling is better
12. Heaven Tells No Lies vs Insurrection. Sorry, but the vocals on the chorus of Insurrection sound off to me, going with Helloween here.
Winner: Gamma Ray 8 to 4.

Though I assumed you would have ignored the two short intro tracks (both albums have one).

Ok, I decided to pick Yngwie Malmsteen-Marching Out vs Eclipse:

1. Prelude vs Making Love-Prelude's just a short instrumental opening, going with Making Love
2. I'll See the Light Tonight vs Bedroom Eyes. Love I'll See the Light, Bedroom Eyes is nothing really special.
3. Dont Let it End vs Save Our Love. Save Our Love is boring IMO, going with Dont Let it End
4. Disciples of Hell vs Motherless Child. While I know DoH is considered a classic, I think Motherless Child is better believe it or not.
5. I Am a Viking vs Devil In Disguise. Love the epic feel of I Am a Viking'
6. Overture 1383 vs Judas. While Overture is good for what it is, I prefer Judas.
7. Anguish and Fear vs What Do You Want. Both are good songs, but the speed metal of Anguish and Fear does more for me.
8. On the Run Again vs Demon Driver. Again, both good, but OtRA is better.
9. Soldier Without Faith vs Faultline. Fautline is pretty cool, underrated and probably the best track on Eclipse.
10. Caught in the Middle vs See You in Hell. Not a huge fan of either, but I'll go with Caught in the Middle.
11. Marching Out vs Eclipse. Instrumental title track battle! The more uptempo Eclipse wins here.
Winner: Marching Out 6 to 5.

Both are my favourite Malmsteen albums. Eclipse was the first Yngwie album i had ever heard. So it holds a special place in my heart. But Marching out is overall better imho.

OK, went with two random ones from my collection again, Judas Priest-Screaming for Vengeance vs Kiss-Lick It Up:

1. The Hellion vs Exciter. Exciter. Hellion is just an intro anyway.
2. Electric Eye vs Not For the Innocent. Has to be Electric Eye.
3. Riding on the Wind vs Lick it Up. Love Riding, easy win here
4. Bloodstone vs Young and Wasted. Not a huge fan of either song, but Bloodstone
5. Take these Chains vs Gimmie More. I love Take these Chains, Gimmie More is filler.
6. Pain and Pleasure vs All Hell's Breakin Loose. AHBL is a fun track, and Pain was my least fav track on SFV anyway.
7. Screaming for Vengeance vs A Million To One. I like A Million to One, but Screaming wins out here.
8. You've Got Another Thing Coming vs Fits Like a Glove. YGATC wins easily here.
9. Fever vs Dance All Over Your Face. Fever, never liked Dance
10. Devil's Child vs And On the 8th Day. Tough call here since both are great, but I'll give the nod to Kiss.
Winner. Judas Priest , 7 to 3.

Dokken-Erase the Slate vs Motley Crue-New Tattoo

1. Erase the Slate vs Hell on High Heels. HoHH is kind of fun, but the Dokken song is better in every way.
2. Change the World vs Treat Me Like the Dog I Am. Easy win for Dokken
3. Maddest Hatter vs New Tattoo. Yet another win for Dokken, the Crue ballad is kind of boring.
4. Drown vs Dragstrip Superstar. Crue win this one as Drown is too dark and sludgy.
5. Shattered vs 1st Band on the Moon. The Crue song is beyond cheesy, but it's more fun than Shattered.
6. One vs She Needs Rock and Roll. One is a pretty good cover.
7. Who Believes vs Punched in the Teeth By Love. Didnt use to like Who Believes, but I've warmed up to it.
8.Voice of the Soul vs Hollywood Ending. VotS is a really underrated track, and Hollywood Ending is nothing special.
9. Crazy Mary Goes Round vs Fake. Fake is slightly better, giving it to that one.
10. Haunted Lullaby vs Porno Star. For some reason I really dig Haunted Lullaby, kind of sounds like what Shadowlife should have been.
11. In Your Honor vs White Punks on Dope. I like the Tubes cover a lot, but In Your Honor is one of Dokken's best ballads.

Winner: Dokken 8 to 3.

Y&T: In Rock We Trust vs Down For the Count:
1. Rock & Roll's Gonna Save the World vs In the Name of Rock. Going to go with In the Name of Rock.
2. Life Life Life vs All American Boy. All American Boy is one of my fav Y&T songs.
3. Masters and Slaves vs Anytime At All. AAA iks a cool AOR tune, but Masters and Slaves is Better.
4. I'll Keep on Believin vs Anything for Money. Kind of a tough one, but I'll Keep on Believin.
5. Break Out Tonight vs Face Like an Angel. Another tough one, but Face Like an Angel is slightly better
6. Lipstick and Leather vs Summertime Girls. Lipstick and Leather is a highlight of In Rock We Trust, Summertime Girls was a big hit single, but not one of the better songs on the album
7. Dont Stop Runnin vs Looks Like Trouble. Dont Stop Runnin is the best song on the album, LLT is nothing special
8. Drivin Me Crazy vs Your Mama Dont Dance. Poisons cover of YMDD is better, another win for In Rock
9. She's A Liar vs Dont Tell Me What To Wear. Dont Tell Me is kind of a guilty pleasure, silly but I like it.
10. This Time vs Hands of Time. Ballad battle, Hands of Time is a classy ballad, going with that one.

Winner: Tie.

C&Ping one I did on the Christian Metal Realm
Stryper: To Hell With the Devil vs In God We Trust:

1. To Hell With the Devil vs In God We Trust
-Got to give it to THWTD 1/0
2. Calling On You vs Always There For You
-Like Calling, but I like Always There even more 1/1
3. Free vs Keep the Fire Burning
-Easy win for THWTD 2/1
4. Honestly vs I Believe in You
-Honestly is one of their best ballads, never cared much for I Believe In You 3/1
5. The Way vs Writing on the Wall
-The Way, no contest 4/1
6. Sing-Along-Song vs It's Up 2 U
-Not a big fan of either song, but IU2U is my least favorite Stryper song, so Sing Along Song by default 5/1
7. Holding On vs The World of You and I
-I actually like The World of You and I, Holding on is decent, but I'll give it to the latter 5/2
8. Rocking the World vs Come to the Everlife
-Again, dont really like either, but Rocking is Good enough for a point 6/2
9. All of Me vs Lonely
-Lonely is incredibly underrated, All of Me just sounds like extremely mellow Toto (and I LIKE Toto!) 6/3
10. More than a Man vs The Reign
-The Reign may be my fav track on IGWT, but More than a Man is my fav track on To Hell and is stronger 7/3
Winner: To Hell With the Devil

Megadeth-Youthanasia vs Cryptic Writings

1. Reckoning Day vs Trust. While I like Trust, it's just radio-friendly hard rock compared to RD.
2. Train of Consequences vs Almost Honest. AH is kind of eh, Train is a much better song
3. Addicted to Chaos vs Use the Man. Didnt use to like Addicted, but it's grown on me, another one for Youthanasia
4. A Tout Le Monde vs Mastermind. I find Mastermind to be underrated, but A Tout Le Monde is still better.
5. Elysian Fields vs The Disintegrators. Giving this one to the thrash throwback Disintegrators (Cryptic finally gets one!)
6. The Killing Road vs I'll Get Even. Killing Road is more enjoyable.
7. Blood of Heroes vs Sin. My fav song on Youthanasia vs my least fav on CW, yeah, Blood of Heroes wins easily.
8. Family Tree vs A Secret Place. A Secret Place is pretty cool. FT isnt bad, but nothing great.
9. Youthanasia vs Have Cool Will Travel. Neither one really grabs me, so I'll give it to Have Cool for at least trying something different.
10. I Thought I Knew It All vs She-Wolf. Tough call as both are cool and underrated, I'll go with I Thought I Knew It All.
11. Black Curtains vs Vortex. Black Curtains has a cool solo, but Vortex is a better song.
12. Victory vs FFF. Victory is a great way to close the album, going with that one.
Winner: Youthanasia 8 to 4.
