Judas Priest on "The Simpsons"

I'm surprised that this hasn't been mentioned before now. Maybe I'm the only one who still watches 'The Simpsons?'

Anyway, for those of you who might have missed it, Judas Priest made a brief cameo in last week's Simpsons ('Steal This Episode'), which dealt with Homer learning how to pirate movies off of the internet. When the FBI seeks to arrest him for copyright infringement, Homer and the rest of the family seek asylum in the local Swedish consulate. The FBI agent in charge sez the only way to get them to come out is by 'blasting death metal' at them, so Judas Priest roll up on a flatbed truck and perform a 'Breaking the Law' parody called 'Respecting the Law' outside the building. (to which their Swedish host, while headbanging furiously, says 'Swedes love death metal. It reminds us of death.')



(side note: Cartoon Ian Hill is WAY more buff looking than Real Ian Hill.)

Predictably, after the show aired the Internet lit up with metal fans who were offended by Priest being called a 'death metal' band (ala Comic Book Guy: 'Judas Priest isn't Death Metal! Worst! Episode! EVER!'), though I thought it was pretty frickin' funny.

...anyway, the fan reaction to their grievous error in genre definitions obviously got back to the Simpsons writers, because on last night's episode, the opening 'chalkboard gag' showed Bart repeatedly writing 'JUDAS PRIEST IS NOT DEATH METAL' on the classroom blackboard. I guess we showed them, huh??

I saw the mention of it and was gonna post about it, but forgot. Or was too lazy. Or distracted by internet porn. Probably that last one.

I haven't watched the episode yet. I have about 5 other episodes to get through on my tivo. Just haven't been that motivated to watch 'em. Again, probably the internet porn thing is to blame.

I saw that but didn't bother mentioning it here. Maybe I was distracted like MG. At any rate I missed the last night's episode so didn't catch the joke which is actually much funnier than what occurred the week before.

I saw the episode, but never caught the chalk board gag in the following one.

Since I rarely watch The Simpsons I missed the episode.

I saw the episode and laughed when they called Priest death metal. Did not see the follow-up episode and didn't really care enough to make a point to call out the "mistake". It's the Simpsons, it's all gags and jokes. I just assumed it was part of the joke.

I saw the clips on Your Tube.... BTW - Judas Priest was also featured on Revolution last night, a post-end of the world's electricity (premise of the show) Mexican band played Living After Midnight... a good bit of it too... must be Priest month on TV! What's next Twisted Sister's music in PMS commercials???? O wait, that already happened......

I think the "death metal" thing was just a joke that JP fans took WAY too seriously.

I remember they called Slayer "death metal" on South Park once.

Sad thing is, a lot of sources call them death metal, when they are simply thrash metal, and are probably baffled to hear people correct them on that. Hell, I'm sure we've heard people call Pantera a death metal band.

Most people really don't care enough about metal's 50 gazillion sub genres to warrant correcting every mistake.
