Well, it's officially the holiday season in our household as the wife picked up our first Holiday seasonal last night, Shriner Holiday Cheer. Can't say I'm really a fan of it.  It wasn't has heavy or spiced as most Christmas Ales, but the infused peaches made it a little too sweet for me.  

 Peaches????  In a Christmas beer???  WTH???

With Roasted pecans.

Ugh.  That just sounds awful. 

The pecans sound good but not with peaches.  And as a holiday seasonal?  That makes no sense.

That St. Bernardus is on my "must find" list every year.  Fortunately for me it's pretty easy to find around here.  Actually, it should be available pretty much anywhere since it's not a regional brewery.

The Corsendonk is good too.  In fact I've already had one of those these season.

I looked for it today at my local 6-pack store and they were already sold-out. I got another place I'll try tomorrow.

Haven't seen that yet but I generally like Unibroue beers.  I'll have to keep my eyes open.

Consuming a waaaaay over the top beer.

Evil Twin's "Molatav Heavy".  It's a double IPA that weighs in with a 17.9 ABV (I'll probably only drink half the bottle tonight).

It's a nice double IPA with the hops balanced out by sweet malts as is usual for double/triple IPAs.  But the ABV makes it warm all the way down.

I got the Alaskan heritage coffee brown. Brown ales are usually my jam but I dunno about this one. 7.0% Alc/vol.

Never heard of it but BA gives it a decent score so I'd give it a shot if I found it.

Not Your Fathers Root Beer - the 10.7% ABV version.

I swear if it wasn't for the very slight burn going down the throat you'd think this was just A&W.

Made a run to the beer store today and I got two new ones:

4 Hands "Gingerbread Milk Stout" and 4 Hands "S'mores Milk Stout".

4 Hands is a local brewer and I've liked their other variations on their basic milk stout (chocolate milk stout, peanut butter chocolate milk stout) so I was all set for these two.

I'm drinking the gingerbread one now and it's OK but I don't think the gingerbread taste is strong enough.  It smells wonderful but the taste just isn't there.

Because I liked it before and I wanted a low level alcohol beer to drink on work nights, I picked up a six pack of this:



And since this brand turned out alright before (I liked their pumpkin beer) and it's the holidays I picked up a six pack of this:

Lately I've been drinking Yuengling Premium beer. It's been on sale so I gave it a shot and it turns out I like it.

Yuengling's not too bad.  I used to like their Black & Tan when I lived in PA.  Can't get Yuengling here though.

Yeah it's brewed around here somewhere. Hell I may even be related to the family for all I know. Yeungling was my grandmother's maiden name (on my dad's side).

No wonder I'm familiar with it. They have a brewery in Pottsville, PA. That's about an hour away from where I grew up.

Going with a local seasonal classic.

I'm currently drinking an Old Fezziwig Ale from the Sam Adams Winter Collection.

I sure wish they sold these in standalone 6 packs but the only way you can get this one every year is by buying the entire Winter collection. Fortunately this year everything in the pack is at least drinkable IMO so it's not a waste of money. Some years Boston Beer Co puts stuff in the collection that I just pour down the drain.

I had a pint of Old Fezziwig last weekend. I was impressed. There were no overpowering seasonal flavors that you'd expect with a name like Old Fezziwig.

Anyone up around Ohio try the Great Lakes Christmas Ale?  I couldn't make it up this year to see family. I was wondering how it was this year.

I've been drinking Samuel Adams White Christmas Ale today. Very good stuff.
