What are your guy's favorite Power Metal bands?

At the moment for me I would have to say Blind Guardian and Sabaton!

I guess Helloween would be my fave. They're one of the few power metal bands that I still actively follow anyway (the other being Gamma Ray, but I'm a few albums behind on them now...)

In the late 90s/early 00s I was way into Primal Fear, HammerFall, Iron Savior, and blah de blah de blah but after a couple of albums from each band I figured I'd heard everything I needed to hear, everything got very samey.

I'd say Metal Church is my favorite power metal band. But my definition of power metal is different than most.

Last I checked, Metal Church, Malice, Vicious Rumors and the like were classified as "Tr00 US metal power steele"

...or somethin' like that.

I do not know if I tag anything "power metal" but if I can, it would list Helloween as my personal favourite.

See, and here I thought you'd adopted my simplified musical-classification system - "stuff that's good" and "stuff that sucks" - to avoid such confusion.

Metal Church hands down. European style is Helloween.

Nevermore, if they count. Or even if they don't.

I like old Helloween I can't say I'm a fan of their new stuff. I guess Metal Church could be put under the "Power Metal" umbrella because people consider Jag Panzer Heavy/Power Metal band. I personally prefer the European style of Power Metal but this might change since I haven't given to many U.S Power Metal bands a listen.

Yes they are differen't but most people still consider Sabaton and Blind Guardian Power Metal. I think the biggest difference between Sabaton and Blind Guardian is that the Guitar's aren't as prevelent as in Blind Guardian.

Are we talking Euro Power Metal or US Power Metal?

I generally dislike Euro Power metal but I like many US Power Metal bands.

Of course, I am not sure if there's a difference between power metal and traditional heavy metal at this point.

I'm generally not into power metal anymore but I still really dig Sabaton.

I've always preferred the U.S. power metal stuff, with METAL CHURCH being the very definition of what power metal is. Metal Church, Reverend, Heretic, Meliah Rage...all come to mind. In the 80's power metal were those bands that weren't quite thrash but they were a bit heavier and faster than your typical traditional heavy metal bands.

I do like some of the European dungeons and dragons power (flower?) metal as well. I don't really keep up with the scene, but I was really into Rhapsody for a long time. Also, Labyrinth were great! "Return To Heaven Denied" was brilliant IMO. I use to be heavily into Blind Guardian as well. I still like them, but don't listen to them anywhere near as much as I use to. I really like Narnia as well.

An American band with a European power metal sound that I listen to frequently is Rob Rock. His "Holy Hell" and "Garden of Chaos" albums both fit into that sound. Of course, I think his band was basically Narnia on those two albums with Roy Z and Gus G lending a hand in writing, recording and producing.

I still own the debut Metal Church album and Blessing In Disguise. I still own Sirens/The Dungeons Are Calling, Hall Of The Mountain King and Gutter Ballet by Savatage.

That's as close to power metal as I ever wanna get.

Kai Helloween, Kai Gamma Ray er Kai Hansen basically!

The U.S thing I find confusing Metal Church are Armored Saint aren't so I don't bother with it for those bands they are just Metal to me.

Savatage hands down, then maybe this......(album)

When I think of "power metal" I think of the style/sound that originated with Helloween.
My favs are:
Gamma Ray and Dungeon.
I always thought of Metal Church, Fifth Angel, Armored Saint, Malice, Sanctuary, as just "metal'. But not trying to start up a genre debate.
