2012 is an insane year for classic rock...

Of course there has been and will be tons of new metal, AOR, sleaze, etc., records, but it's crazy that all in this year we have seen or will see new records by:

-Neil Young (2 records, in fact!)

-Bruce Springsteen

-Bob Dylan (and while I don't care much for his voice now, it is impressive he has been putting out records for 50 years now)

-KISS

-Aerosmith

-Ian Hunter

-Heart (right? they have a new one coming out or that just came out?)

-Van Morrison

-Jeff Lynne

-Paul McCartney

-ZZ Top

Not to mention any new live albums, comps or whatever that have come out, like Led Zeppelin and Destroy Resurrected.

There's definitely been some good stuff this year but I've probably paid the least amount of attention to new music this year than I have in a long time.

The ZZ Top is excellent, even with the production sound.

Bob's voice is like a fine wine, he sounds like some of the classic old time bluesmen.

I like some Van but not sure if i'll pull the trigger on this one.

Ian Anderson's Thick As A Brick 2 is in my top 10 albums for the year, an excellent album.

RUSH should probably qualify for classic rock status now, Clockwork Angels will easily make my top 5 of the year.

In addition to the Jeff Lynne solo album (Long Wave) there is the all new re-recordings of classic E.L.O. songs on "Mr. Blue Sky"...not "definitive" but one of the best re-imaginings I've heard.

I forgot about the Rush album. I'd also probably count Van Halen in this as well.

I probably need to give it some more time but I was disappointed with the new Heart record.

Still need to get that ZZ Top.

And that Rush record is amazing. It is fast becoming one of my favorites of theirs.

You can add the new Donald Fagen album "Sunken Condos" to this list. Excellent. The next best thing to a new Steely Dan album.

I think of that list the only one I care about is Aerosmith and maybe Heart

Though would be curious about the Paul McCartney and the ZZ Top

Just goes to show than even good songs can't be ruined by rick rubin production!
