Holy Moses

Seeing as somebody brought up Tankard - what do you, fellow thrashers, think of Holy Moses?

I personally love the band - their output is really something. From the Motorhead/Venom metal of the debut, the brutality of "Finished With The Dogs" or the Bay Area-like technicism of "The New Machine Of Lichtenstein" Holy Moses could do it all. Their songs (especially the early ones) are brimming with intensity and power. Another point - the vocals. I normally don't like woman vocals in metal (there are several exceptions - Black Knight, Chastain and the like) but Sabina could go toe to toe with the best of them. Such rage in her voice!

Bringing this up because I just received my 7CD box of Holy Moses stuff (first seven albums). And this thing is marvelous! Each CD is a vinyl like replica, with full booklet, obi, additional japanese booklet and even the CD looks like the original vinyl. Amazing.

So - what do you think of Holy Moses?

My only experience with the band was at a festival earlier this year, where I caught most of their set (they were playing before Doro and I wanted a good spot). Honestly, I didn't enjoy that Sabina's voice in the slightest. I found her really unbearable as a vocalist. She came on to do a song with Doro and ruined it, too.

Having said that, I've never heard her on record so perhaps she was having an off day. But I've really been put off the band as a whole because of their live set.

my favorite German thrash band. Finished With The Dogs & Reborn Dogs are two of my favorite thrash albums of all time.

I wanted to check them out since Uli Kusch plays drums on an album or two but I wasn't into her voice at all so I decided against it.

I don't have any albums, but I have heard some of their stuff. Definitely intend to buy some in the future.

Not familiar with these guys.

I do need recommendations as to what to buy and what to avoid.

I've heard a few songs, nothing close to their entire catalog. From what I did hear, take or leave. Nothing really grabbed me, I'm afraid.

Go with "Finished With The Dogs" and "The New Machine Of Lichtenstein" first. Should work well enough.

agreed! good to see you again pal!

They have some great albums and old demos, more heavy metal. I like their early speed/thrash days. Some of the HOLY MOSES are a little to DEATH METAL like NO MATTER WHAT´S THE CAUSE (but strange enought i have that cd twice, different editions) because i like HOLY MOSES and SABINA to sound thrash.
