That is very true... I like them for the same reasons I like some of the other bands you listed. You can listen to a Radiohead track, and you know it is Radiohead (love em or hate em). The same is true of a band like Rush. You can never confuse a Rush song for anyone else. It is hard to maintain a uniqueness, especially nowadays where every band seems to sound like Nickelback!

I don't see that every band today sounds like Nickelback. Clean out your ears man!

Obviously I exaggerate a bit here, but many of the bands played on rock radio nowadays have that stale Nickebackish sound. Hence, I don't listen to rock radio much... I have a fine CD collection to rely on instead. You could say it keeps my ears nice and clean from Nickeldrudge! Laughing

I think Nickelback should apologize to their fans for being such a sucky band.

I like Hail To The Thief because of the political stance of the album, other than that I don't listen to them.

Nothing really extra in it. Just the albums compiled together in a box. Still, easy way to get most of the discog in one swipe.

For Manny:

Quote :
This simple, attractive, reasonably priced box set (issued in the U.K.) houses 1993's Pablo Honey, 1995's The Bends, 1997's OK Computer, 2000's Kid A, 2001's Amnesiac and I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings, and 2003's Hail to the Thief -- each full-length Radiohead release on Parlophone. (The label released the box, marketed as "limited edition," between Radiohead's pick-your-price download and physical release of In Rainbows.) Each disc is in its own sturdy, foldout digipack sleeve, containing the original artwork in full, and they fit into a black sheath that slides snugly into a white box. No remastering took place with any of the recordings.

That would be cool to get their discography in one go like that, I already own some of their discs, but if I did not, this would be the way to go.

I was aware of Radiohead pretty much the same as most other people with Creep which I thought was okay and I just thought of them as a pretty good band but not worth the hype then one day I heard Paranoid Android loud through earphones (I'd probably heard the song 30 or so times previous) and it just blew me away, from then on I had to hear more and I couldn't get enough, they are a brilliant band that manage originality with every release. Kid A is a masterpiece.

It staggers and saddens me that people put them into a category with Coldplay!!!! Soulless pretentious garbage without a shred of originality or inspiration.

I'm familiar with some of their material and have friends that were ravenous fans. I like them well enough but not really to the point where I wanted to start collecting their albums. I'll probably spin some more on Spotify to see how they sit with me now, been at least a decade since I listened to any of their stuff.

I really loved the song Creep when it first came out, then got sick of it and never went any further with Radiohead. Not long ago I found a Radiohead promo disc that had an acoustic version of Creep on it. For .50 I figure why not. The acoustic version did nothing for me but the four other songs blew me away. Been on the lookout for a copy of Pablo Honey ever since.

and Coldplay as well. I have heard a few songs but nothing grabbed me, it was just whoop-de-doo radio rock.

I am still getting into Radiohead. I ignored them for years because of their popularity with indie kids. So last year I finally grabbed a few albums: OK Computer, The Bends, and Kid A. I'm still getting into The Bends, but I am pretty much in love with OK Computer and Kid A. As a fan of prog rock I find a lot about these albums to appreciate. We'll see how the rest of their catalogue holds up.

The Bends is my favorite. But the albums after are all so good. I love their experimental nature. Radiohead doesn't sound like anyone else.

Pablo Honey isn't a bad UK Indie Rock record...but it's really far removed from what they became.

I'm jamming through OK Computer again, and there's only one thing I don't particularly care for: the rather bland drumming. It's not horrible, but it's a bit boring in my opinion.

It's one of those things, IMO, that reveals itself later. On the surface it seems really simple, but there are layers to it that unfold the more you let the album sink in.

For me, as a singer, the vocals used to seem boring. But as time went on, I heard how what he was doing was an extension of what the music was doing. He wasn't trying to "be a singer"...he was providing another layer.
