| Veteran New Jersey thrashers OVERKILL have tapped PAIN/HYPOCRISY mainman Peter Tägtgren to mix their new album in August.
OVERKILL bassist D.D. Verni has been locked in the studio putting together what will be the band's 25th anniversary release. The group is still talking with different labels, but plans are to make the new CD available at the end of the year.
Since 2010 is the 25th anniversary of the release of the debut OVERKILL album, "Feel The Fire", there are lots of plans for next year, including U.S. and European tours.

| & they're playing Rocklahoma of all things in July too, is the rest of the news that came out yesterday...
OVERKILL, METAL CHURCH, LEATHERWOLF Confirmed For ROCKLAHOMA - Mar. 30, 2009 | | Rocklahoma, the premier eighties music festival in the United States being held July 9-12 in Pryor, Oklahoma announces Thursday as "Heavy Metal Day."
General Manager of Catch the Fever Music Festivals Mark Nuessle had this to say, "Rocklahoma is a celebration of the eighties music that made rock great! Our Thursday lineup consists of a heavier sound as we spotlight the music of SAXON, OVERKILL, METAL CHURCH, LEATHERWOLF and, of course, recently announced headliner ANTHRAX!"
LEATHERWOLF's vocalist/guitarist Mike Olivieri stated, "It is definitely an honor to bring the triple axe attack to Rocklahoma this year and being part of such a stellar lineup of bands. I'm looking forward to playing a great show and help make this year the best four days of classic metal anywhere on the planet. We'll see you there!"
D.D. Verni of OVERKILL said, "We're psyched to be part of the Rocklahoma festival! OVERKILL have been doing the summer festivals in Europe for many years and it's always a great time. So doing one in America with old friends like ANTHRAX and METAL CHURCH should be a fricken blast."
The third annual Rocklahoma will have over ninety bands on four stages. Additional bands will be announced in the coming weeks.
On the three side stages, Rocklahoma has partnered with Retrospect Records to showcase additional bands of the Eighties.
Rocklahoma festival billing is shaping up as follows:
TWISTED SISTER ANTHRAX OVERKILL METAL CHURCH LEATHERWOLF GREAT WHITE VIXEN SAXON HURRICANE ALICE HELIX DANGER DANGER WARRANT NIGHT RANGER GYPSY PISTOLEROS NELSON KEEL KIX BANG TANGO BEAUTIFUL CREATURES L.A. GUNS BRITNY FOX FASTER Pu$$ycat LILLIAN AXE DIRTY PENNY HERMAN RAREBELL BONFIRE ICON BIG rooster BATON ROUGE LORD TRACY SILENT RAGE WARRIOR PAIR-A-DICE JULLIET WILD STREET VOUGAN
Rocklahoma is one of the largest rock festivals of its type featuring music from the Eighties. Attendance has come from all fifty states and six out of seven continents.
Both Playboy and Rolling Stone in 2008 called Rocklahoma one of the top festivals that should not be missed.
Catch The Fever Festival Grounds is located four miles north of Pryor, Oklahoma and has 6,200 assigned and numbered seats, as well as general admission on the lawn for over 50,000 people. The grounds also feature over 4,000 campsites, on-site parking, bathroom facilities, a convenience store, Rocklahoma also has a Picture Alley that allows anyone in attendance to approach the stage during any performance and take photographs of a favorite artist at close range.
Rocklahoma offers a one-day and four-day general admission passes, along with V.I.P. Passes that includes all the food and drink you want for all four days.
The public can also order tickets online at www.feverfest.com, or charge by phone at 1-866-310-2288. Tickets can also be purchased at any of the 3,200 O'Reilly Auto Parts across the nation.

The first night of Rocklahoma is going to be Heavy Metal night, that's when Anthrax, Overkill, Metal Church, etc. are appearing. once that's done with then it'll be all hair all the time. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Sure wish I could go! I wonder if Overkill will ever play Atlanta again? doubt it. there's long post from awhile back by Chaly that explains why it never happens--ever seen that? mostly because they can't fill in all the dates--there's too many days off in a row when they try to schedule down here. saw then in ATL though in '88 once & that was awesome of course.

| here's the post i was referring to:
"I think, for the record I need to clear up a few things regarding US tour dates and the areas of the US that seem to be, most visited by the band. Seems that with every new record release and tour involved, places the band in quite familiar territory all of the time. For example, OH, PA, CT, MA, NY, NJ, VA, MI are staples generally on an Overkill tour. Why? Well, it has NOTHING to do with the band and everything to do with setting up a tour. Without getting into the lengthy rhetoric on how tours are set up, basically the logistics for the ENTIRE tour (from beginning to end) have to connect. Connect, you say? What the Smurf is that? Well, to be honest, connect in a financial sense. And while that may seem to be a smurfed up thing to state, you have to realize that this is the way the band members make a living and pay bills. Make a living and pay bills right! Well, countless times I have heard that "if the band toured more areas, they would sell more records and make more money!" While that is 100% correct, it is still an understatement. Why? Well, here's where the word "connect" comes into play again. This time, in a practical sense of the word. Lemme explain: Say you hire Agency X to book your tour in April 2005. Agency X, starting approx 3 months prior, gets on the horn everyday, calling every venue from Jersey to Alaska and everywhere in between, selling the tour they are putting together to the perspective venue. If 100 calls are made and 50 confirm, you have the start of a great tour. Okay, with confirmations in hand, contracts are sent out to the venues that include all of the legal stuff between the agency and the band and also contains a deposit amount. What happens next...is the waiting! Waiting for the return contracts and deposits for the show. Meanwhile, the dates are being tracked out, day wise. All of the venues that have confirmed and sent contracts to, all now are set up on the calendar. So, let's start with April 4 - Club X, April 5 - Club Y, April 6 - Club Z...get the idea? Now, here comes the good stuff. Agency X sent out 30 contracts with specific dates confirmed. Out of those 30, 10 send in deposits and finalize the booking. Great! But, with those 10 deposits, those dates that are attached to them are scatted throughout the month. Not good, but okay. So the agency, gets on the horn again, to try to fill in the gaps. And again, the same process previously. More waiting. April is a month away, and it is decided to stop booking and piece together what we have. The end result is a designated tour for a specific month. This also yeilds this equation: [actual show days] are less than [days off] Hmmm! Not good! You see, the term "days off" means that the band has no show that day. No show means no income. And with that "day off" and no income, they still have to: ...pay for the bus...pay the crew...pay for any daily extras that arise.. pay themselves. You see, both in a financial and practical sense, this does not "connect". Okay. Now here comes the "most popular" responses to this whole issue: 1. "Get another booking agent!" Sure. That's a possibility. It will not solve the problem. The problem lies more within the venue itself, than with the band, agent or record company. You see, like a band or any business, a venue is out to make money. Say the venue confirms to book the band on April 15. Being that Overkill has not been in this area for quite some time, the venue is quite speculative about the nights turnout (how many people will buy tickets? how much do I have to pay the band? am I (venue) gonna make a profit on the night?). Now, rightly so, Overkill is not the only band out touring in the month of April, so let's say during this time the bands contracts are being exchanged, Rock Band X and Rock Band Y also contact this club looking for a date in April. The venue looks at both and let's say, both bands have played there before and sold the place out, or even pretty close to. Know what happens next? Right! The venue books Rock Band X or Y for April 15. Know where that leaves Overkill? Right!!! With an open date (or a "day off"). And remember..."day off" = NO INCOME! 2. "Get the record company to supply tour support." Sure. Another possibility! But this subject is WAY TOO LENGTHY to even discuss. Bottom line...record companies NEVER SUPPLY anything. A contract between a band and a record company for a specific release is "budgeted" specifically. Anything out of budget...is "out of pocket". 3. Don't charge so much to play. This is the best one of all! For the record, I can honestly say this and this pretty much sums up this topic, and I quote "...as long as our expenses are completely covered and we can put a few bucks in our pockets...we will show up and play". With this being said, there is really nothing more to expand upon. This article is just scratching the surface of this issue, hopefully trying to shed some insight and make things a little more clear from the bands standpoint. As far as Overkill purposely ignoring the rest of the US, is absurd as much so as a member of the band isn't allowed to tour the rest of the US. Simply absurd! With each and EVERY new record Overkill releases, the FIRST thing that is planned out is to "tour the areas with this record we have not played in a long time". So far, this has NEVER panned out. Why? See above! To conclude this article, I leave you with this: Tours are set up in a "consecutive" sense. Take a look at ANY bands tour schedule. It looks something like this: Show days (month): April 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15....Days off (month) April 6, 11, 16... Take the example above, switch the show days and days off and THAT is always the result of trying to put together a "West Coast Tour". Bottom line...too many days off not enough show days. Booking an "East Coast Tour" is easier and most practical. Why? Basically, the band has established the area effectively. What is the solution to this problem? Not really sure. The band is trying it's best to come up with one. Hell, I know for a fact that this time, a "Southern US Tour" was SOOOOOOO close to being finalized, closest as it has been in years, but again fell to the peril of that "days off" problem. One of these days...I'm sure it will come together!" _Chaly_

| Well written bit about touring - I know lots of people still don't understand that when it comes to bands like Overkill that make a living at the music they do, but have to be fiscally responsible in doing so. As much as I'd love to see a band like Overkill come to Nebraska, I know it's not that feasible. | |
