Any fans? I first became aware of them in the 80s, like most people. It took me a long time before I realized that the band that did "Legs" and "Gimme All Your Lovin" was the same band that did "Tush" and "La Grange!" Who doesn't know those songs? I had no idea it was ZZ Top!

When I joined the Air Force this was a band I sacrificed to make room in my teeny-weeny dorm rooms. Now, thanks to lala.com, I'm re-buying them all. Haha. I've got 8 CDs coming to me now, 6 are ZZ Top albums; and I've already gotten three in this week. I love that site!

Anyway, they were cheesy good in the 80s, but they started to get cheesy bad at one point. Luckily they went back to their more bluesy stuff before they imploded. Good move. And aside from a few missteps, they've remained a killer band!

I got Rhythmeen today, one of the few albums I've never heard by them, and it's pretty badass! So, I figured I'd start this thread! 🤘

I love ZZ Top, especially their 70's stuff. I love their 1977 Best Of ZZ Top album. I listened to that album so much, every song is fantastic. Their 80's stuff is ok I like the first couple of 80's albums, but then it got a little to 80's, if you know what I mean. I haven't heard any of their 90's to present material, but I should, because if they moved back to their blues roots then it merits listening to.

I grew up on that stuff, so I got a little burnt out by it by now. But try these bands if you want to dig deeper...

Although I like them, the classic rock stations in the Philly area have kinda burned me out on them. I know their catalog goes much, much deeper than "Sharp Dressed Man" and "La Grange" but I just got tired of hearing them. I feel the same about Rush. Great band, super talent, but too much airplay.

I did see ZZ Top years ago at the Spectrum and it was awesome. The Black Crowes were the opening act and the singer Chris Robinson would go off on these rants about the sponsorship of the tour (Miller Lite). Shortly thereafter, the Crowes got booted from the tour.

That's because I thought they weren't metal enough for the metal forum. Haha.

Anyway, I'm a big fan. But right now it's like reacquanting myself with an old friend. I haven't heard some of these album in ages! If anything lala.com is great for picking up albums like this.

I like em - I only have one of their greatest hits cd's with stuff from the 70's and 80's. They had some good songs in the 80's. I haven't heard anything in the late 90's to now - sounds like its worth checking out

Recycler is when they started bringing back the early bluesy stuff in a prominent manner. That album still have more in common with Eliminator than Tres Hombres, of course, and Antenna continued on that trend. Rhythmeen, XXX, and Mescalero were pretty much devoid of the 80s synth pop-rock sound, though they're definitely modern ZZ Top albums. Not quite Tres Hombres or Fandago!, but the closest you're going to get to that.

I love ZZ, no better feeling than rolling through the Texas hill country on the motorcycle with La Grange rollin' on the mp3.

Yup great band for their time, their newer material is so so. But can't go wromg with their 70's material . I like "Baby's got Legs" real bluesy number from Rio Grande Mud!
