| Oh brother...Earthquake and Typhoon.
Remember when Typhoon was doing that Tugboat gimmick and he wore that silly sailor's hat? _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Yes! He lives in the town next to me. I wonder what he's up to. Maybe I'll run by his house after work. |

Yeah, he died shortly before my best friend did. I found some recent facts about John Tenta (his real name) that gave me a great deal of respect for him. He really knew how to wrestle (although you never saw it in the ring): - Quote :
Tenta decided to pursue wrestling at age 6. He learned freestyle wrestling at North Surrey Secondary, becoming a Canadian junior champion in 1981. Shortly after his 18th birthday, he finished sixth in the super-heavyweight category at the World Junior Wrestling Championships at Vancouver. Tenta won an athletic scholarship to Louisiana State University (LSU), where he competed in NCAA-level collegiate wrestling.[4] At LSU he was nicknamed "Big John" Tenta, lettering on the Tiger varsity wrestling team and participating on the football team. LSU had dropped varsity wrestling to comply with Title IX in 1985, forcing Tenta to choose a new sport.
Also, as those of us who watched wrestling during the 90s, he was a sumo wrestler. But not only that, he probably could have been a rare caucasian Yokozuna. Unfortunatly, because of his large tatoo, he had to bow out. In Japan tatoos are seen as obsene and connected to organized crime and he refuesed to get it grafted off (plus the life of a sumo is very taxing on the human body). Fred Ottman (Tugboat) had an unsuccessful stint as Shockmaster in WCW (wearing a silver spray painted Storm Trooper Helmet) but an embarassing misshap killed the character (look it up it's quite a hilarious story). He is retired but I don't know what he's doing (though he does coach the little league team of his three sons). | |

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=6329213 I was actually watching when that happened. Hilarious. There was no way to recover from that so the bookers turned that into his schtick; he'd always be tripping and stumbling over things. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
