I love Yes! Great band, but I still need to pick up some more of their albums. Currently I only have "Magnification".
I do remember we had a thread for them, but I can't find it either .

There is another thread on Yes somewhere on this board, you will find a lot of Yes fans on this board. Great band especially their early 70's period.

The search engine doesn't like single word threads...if you search for the word Yes this thread doesn't even show up.
There must be a wildcard built in somewhere...Eyesore???

Yes is one of those bands that I've changed my opinion about at least 20 times in my life. love...hate...indifferent, felt all those ways at one point or another.
We know how incredibly talented they are..and also how self-indulgent they can be at times...but they've created their own sound and that's not an easy feat in this world.
Here are the Yes albums I currently have in my collection:
Yes (1969) - Their debut album, which generally gets completely ignored...but shouldn't be. Much more of a jazz edge than later (thanks primarily to original guitarist Peter Banks). They already sounded like nobody else.
The Yes Album - Even though I'm burnt out on many of the radio tracks from this album, it's still a great listen.
Fragile - Listening to this album now, it's hard to believe they rushed the recording to help pay off Rick Wakeman's keyboard setup. But then again, there's an immediacy to Fragile that never really happened again.
Close To The Edge & Tales From Topographic Oceans - The "concept" albums, I have to be in a really specific mood to listen to these.
Drama - The album done without Jon Anderson is actually much better than it's reputation. Tempis Fugit is one of my favorite Yes tracks.
90125 & Big Generator - Nostalgia plays a part in these as I loved them when they first came out in the 80's, the Trevor Rabin era gets widely trashed but I think unfairly.
Hmmm...that short of a list makes me realize I need to go get some more Yes CDs...

Amazing band!! They had some high quality pop hits in the '80s, but that wasn't their best stuff. The '70s stuff was best by far, at least from a musical standpoint. Owner Of a Lonely Heart had one of the best MTV/VH-1 videos ever made, one of the few that actually conveyed a thoughtful message.
An album that I recommend to all Yes fans is one called "Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe". I don't know how hard this album is to find these days, as I bought it back in the early nineties. It is excellent, though, and sounds just like Yes (no surprise, considering who was in the group!!)

"The Meeting" is one of the best ballads they ever wrote. The only reason the album wasn't released as "Yes" is because Chris Squire owns the rights and wasn't on the record.
It's still in print, Amazon has it for $6.98.

"The Meeting" is an awesome ballad!! For a total contrast in musical moods, I like to listen to this album, followed by Emerson, Lake and Palmer's "Tarkus" album, another progressive rock masterpiece.
