- Hello ult,
awesome, i am delighted to know that ultimatum are playing.
i am in a cover band and we play classic rock and some new stuff, mostly popular songs that have not been played to death. songs like josie, (steely dan) jaimies crying (VH), beverly hills (wheezer), etc. the pay keeps the lights on, gas in my car and food on the table. we are just starting out so things will pick up in time. keep me and saint fans posted with updates, weblinks, pics whatever.

| Unless your really selling a lot of merch and doing some extensive touring, cover /tribute acts will do better for you monetarily. | |

| It's kind of a shame when an artist who makes original music of his own makes more money and gets more attention for playing someone else's music. Nothing against Cover/Tribute acts...some people just enjoy playing and don't get into writing, etc. They're usually the one's out in the clubs making money playing covers. But for those of us who write our own songs, most of our time is spent holed up in a studio/bedroom somewhere recording... |

Yep, i wrote 30 originals in 2008, i have them all recorded just so i can keep the ideas. There are lyrics and vocals to most of the tracks. When i played gigs in my teen years it seemed people rather hear the covers then your originals.

This makes sense, though. When going to the bar/gig to hear music, it's more fun and less mental to hear something familiar. You already know the words and the beat and you can just get lost in the song. I like to see a band AFTER I've become familiar with their new material. I like that comfort zone.

Unless your songs catch on to the masses, your not going to get the $. We get paid to perform, we have to learn all these songs and perform them well to go over as a tribute act. Even the generic cover bands have much work to do, most people at the clubs are not interested in originals.

I feel the same way, I was never a fan of local bands originals as i was unfamiliar with them. Playing originals is just much more fun.

| I love being in a Doors tribute band, much more fun for me to do this than playing shotty originals. Now if I was in a band where I enjoyed what was being created, sure, I've had some offers to join original projects, but none of them appealed to me. | |

Exactly my point. It's a shame people would rather hear Sweet Home Alabama for the nine millionth time, as performed by some cheesy cover band, rather than listen to an artist play something original. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| Again, this depends on your originals, and the type of club your playing at. | |

Totally agree, 100%. Its not that I mind cover bands, but to be honest, most of the time they slaughter the stuff they are playing. Arttie
