Anybody had any success getting your animals to slim down? I've had about ten cats in my adult life, and I've always just let them eat, never had a really fat one before. But I've got one now that has really let himself go, and he finally got stuck in the cat door today. Too fat to get through the hole. I could just diet all three cats, but the other two aren't fat at all. The obvious solution since the cat food is on the other side of the cat door, would be to let him starve until he slims down enough to get back through the hole. But when he can't get to the food he keeps me awake all night with his hootin' and hollerin'. It's a bad situation.
p.s- No Rich, you can't have him for your Thanksgiving meal.

if he is fat enough... feed him to the other cats. or score some points with the neighborhood dogs.

Most definitely.
I had a fat Siamese that I had to give insulin shots to for the last year of her life. Eventually her diabetes led to kidney failure.

SAHB, why not put the other cats' food on the other side of the door and feed the fat one separately.

Here's an idea:
But seriously, I'd go with Toho's suggestion. Feed the fat guy separately from the other two. I'm sure there must be "diet" cat foods out there that you can feed the big guy. We feed our cat and dog IAMS food and it seems to keep them pretty slim. It's expensive, but the lady at the pet store recommended it because as she put it, a lot of the cheaper pet foods are "junk food" full of fillers and so forth.

Yeah, they do make reduced calorie cat food. I used to feed reduced calorie Purina One to my fat Siamese.

That doesn't always work - especially if the thin one is a "nibbler". That was our issue before the nibble died. Now, the fat one has lost some weight - she still gobbles her food down so the dog doesn't eat it!

All the better because then the fat one has less to eat.
