I got a bad feeling about this storm...

The last time I had a feeling like this was Katrina. They shut down our main road here yesterday which is right on the gulf. We are nowhere near the storm. Something tells me Texas is about to get nailed. Bad.

Oh no, I'm good here. that's what I'm saying. If the water get that high here, what is it going to do where it actually hits land? Texas may be screwed.

I'm glad I'm in Austin and not closer to the coast. It's "supposed" to veer east once it hits land and miss us for the most part. Fingers crossed...

We are right in the tornado zone for this one, It is still supposed to be a hurricane even this far north, going home tonight & getting the generator & the chain saw ready. No rest for the wicked!!!!

It's a Cat 2. That's a small blessing. It was supposed to hit as a 3.

Didn't they say that if people do not evacuate they will die? Wow! that is a pretty big claim not heard since Katrina. Scary stuff.

Plus, the cat strength is based solely on wind speed. The big feature with Ike isn't how fast the winds are, it's how huge the storm is. This thing is 500 miles wide! The seawall near Galveston is 15 ft high. The storm surge is expected to be at least 20ft high.

The storm surge is what is going to screw them. That's what is going to eliminate Tampa one day as well. Luckily they haven't had a direct hit in decades.

They say 11,000 people are still on that island, and it's going to be flattened! The National Hurricane Service told people that they face CERTAIN death. And people stayed? Pfffft! Morons. And then I guess there's 90,000 that stayed altogether, in all the areas.


They say this thing is 600 miles wide. The eye of the storm is about the size of Texas! Category 2 means nothing when the surge is 30ft high and wind gusts get up over 100mph. If what they say is true, a lot of people are dying right now.

Some people don't have the money to go anywhere. Also, if you leave too late the roads are backed up, and you just get stuck sitting in a mcdonalds off some highway in the storm as well.

Good luck too all in it's path. It looks like a bad one from what I have seen on the news this morning.

Yeah, just for one day. All good now. Seems likes TX got owned, but not too many dead. That's good.

Anyone heard from Hamer12 yet?

So what's the verdict for those of you who were in this storm area? Did you homes, towns, etc. make it through ok? I saw some of the photos. Some towns in Texas took hard hits, but not nearly as bad as they had predicted.

Scary stuff. I hope no one is harmed.

I'm still here. Lots of wind, not too much rain. No power at the house since 8:00pm Saturday. Ran the generator from then until 6:45 this morning non stop. We might not have it back until this weekend. Only about 3 households in my neighborhood have generators, why anybody in this part of the country does'nt have one is beyond me. I like going camping but not in my own house!!!!
