"Survivor" (This was actually written by Demi Lovato's Grandfather. He was in a Japanese POW camp in Japan when we dropped the bombs on them. He is one that good ol' Douglas left behind in the Philippines........ what a harrowing story)

Very good, yet harsh books.

A year ago I was really interested in WWI documentaries and only found a few.... One that was really good.

I can totally dig getting one's geek on, particularly with this subject. Ken Burns' Civil War doc is excellent & turned me on to authors like Shelby Foote, Wiley Sword, & Noah Trudeau. One of the best CW books, IMHO, & one often quoted in Burns' doc is "Co. Aytch" by Sam Watkins. As far as the Russian side of WWII, most works that I've found have either been dry factual accounts or tales of the "glorious fight against fascism in the Great Patriotic War". One exception is "Ivan's War" by Catherine Merridale.
