| What song lyrics have you heard that you feel are the most poetic (metal and non)? For me the most poetic lyics come from Marillion. Their first vocalist Fish was well known for his poetry and two songs come to mind that that showcase his talent (the first one is more apparent in the verses, the second one is the most poetic): - Quote :
- Kayleigh
Do you remember chalk hearts melting on a playground wall Do you remember dawn escapes from moon washed college halls Do you remember the cherry blossom in the market square Do you remember I thought it was confetti in our hair By the way didnt I break your heart? Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart So sorry, I never meant to break your heart But you broke mine
Kayleigh is it too late to say Im sorry? And kayleigh could we get it together again? I just cant go on pretending that it came to a natural end
Kayleigh, oh I never thought Id miss you And kayleigh I thought that wed always be friends We said our love would last forever So how did it come to this bitter end?
Do you remember barefoot on the lawn with shooting stars Do you remember loving on the floor in belsize park Do you remember dancing in stilettoes in the snow Do you remember you never understood I had to go By the way, didnt I break your heart? Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart So sorry, I never meant to break your heart But you broke mine
Kayleigh I just wanna say Im sorry But kayleigh Im too scared to pick up the phone To hear youve found another lover to patch up our broken home
Kayleigh Im still trying to write that love song Kayleigh its more important to me now youre gone Maybe it will prove that we were right Or ever prove that I was wrong - Quote :
- Warm Wet Circles
On promenades where drunks propose to lonely arcade mannequins Where ceremonies pause at the jewelers shop display Feigning casual silence in strained romantic interludes Till they commit themselves to the muted journey home And the pool player rests on another cue Last nights hero picking up his dues A honeymoon gambled on a ricochet Shes staring at the brochures at the holidays Chalking up a name in your hometown Standing all your mates to another round Laughing at the world till the barman wipes away the warm wet circles The warm wet circles
I saw teenage girls like gaudy moths A classrooms shabby butterflies Flirt in the glow of stranded telephone boxes; Planning white lace weddings from smeared hearts and token proclamations, Rolled from stolen lipsticks across the razored webs of glass Sharing cigarettes with experience With her giggling jealous confidantes, She faithfully traces his name With quick bitten fingernails Through the tears of condensation Thatll cry through the night As the glancing headlights of the last bus Kiss adolescence goodbye
In a warm wet circle Like a mothers kiss on your first broken heart, A warm wet circle Like a bullit hole in central park, A warm wet circle And Ill always surrender to the warm wet circles
She nervously undressed in the dancing beams of the fidra lighthouse Giving it all away before its too late Shell let a lovers tongue move in a warm wet circle Giving it all away and showing no shame Shell take a mothers kiss on her first broken heart A warm wet circle, Shell realise that she played her part in a warm wet circle
Teenage war brides
It was a wedding ring, Destined to be found in a cheap hotel Lost in a kitchen sink or thrown in a wishing well I haven't heard every Fish song with Marillion so I'm sure there are more. His solo stuff is a little too weird for me so I don't know much about that either.

| Good thread concept, DB. I always like IM's "Revelations" :
O God of earth and altar Bow down and hear our cry Our earthly rulers falter Our peolple drift and die The walls of gold entombe us The swords of scorn divide Take not thy thunder from us But take away our pride (g. k. chesterton: english hymnal)
Just a babe in a black abyss No reason for a place like this The walls are cold and souls cry out in pain An easy way for the blind to go A clever path for the fools who know The secret of the hanged man - the smile on his lips
The light of the blind youll see The venom that tears my spine The eyes of the nile are opening - youll see
She came to me with a serpents kiss As the eye of the sun rose on her lips Moonlight catches silver tears I cry So we lay in a black embrace And the seed is sown in a holy place And I watched and I waited for the dawn
The light of the blind youll see The venom that tears my spine The eyes of the nile are opening - youll see
Bind all of us together Ablaze of hope and free No storm or heavy weather Will rock the boat youll see The time has come to close your eyes And still the wind and rain For the one who will be king The watcher in the ring It is you
I always offered this one up in defense of all the idiots who claim all hard rock and heavy metal is about shaggin' a girl in the backseat of a car. Much more than the average band comes up with; and Maiden are certainly no average band!!!

| I was an English major in college and had to take several poetry courses. Thankfully, I went to a Mennonite college where the professors never heard of Jethro Tull. I turned in at least two "poems" that were based on Tull lyrics. Both off of the Heavy Horses album. This is my favorite.
The leaded window opened to move the dancing candle flame And the first Moths of summer suicidal came. And a new breeze chattered in its May-bud tenderness --- Sending water-lillies sailing as she turned to get undressed. And the long night awakened and we soared on powdered wings --- Circling our tomorrows in the wary month of Spring. Chasing shadows slipping in a magic lantern slide --- Creatures of the candle on a night-light-ride. Dipping and weaving --- flutter through the golden needle's eye in our haystack madness. Butterfly-stroking on a Spring-tide high. Life's too long (as the Lemming said) as the candle burned and the Moths were wed. And we'll all burn together as the wick grows higher --- before the candle's dead. The leaded window opened to move the dancing candle flame. And the first moths of summer suicidal came to join in the worship of the light that never dies in a moment's reflection of two moths spinning in her eyes. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Tom Englund of Evergrey writes some wonderful lyrics.
The silence awakes me My heartbeat would so easily reveal me Who am I what is left is it my mind That constantly deceives me I am beginning to doubt me If what I feel and see is real It seems as if I exist in different worlds There is one in darkness One is loss of time One of self-doubt and one of hurt All my pride has left me My value as a human has been extinguished My close ones' those who love Disbelieve me won't believe me So I got no-one to confide in And what worse is I'm beginning to accept this My body's become my prison My keepers are what you would call... Fiction I am beginning to doubt me If what I feel and see is real It seems as if i exist in different worlds There is one in darkness One is loss of time One of self-doubt and one of hurt

| DallasBlack - who's that woman in your signature?
Here's some cool lyrics: The Doors - My Wild Love (Waiting For The Sun, 1968)
My wild love went riding, She rode all the day, She wrote to the Devil, And asked him to pay. The Devil was wiser, It's time to repent. He asked her to give back The money she spent.
My wild love went riding, She rode to the sea, She gathered together Some shells for her hair. She rode and she rode on, She rode for a while, Then stopped for an evening And laid her head down.
She rode on to Christmas, She rode to the farm, She rode to Japan, And re-entered a town. By this time the weather Had changed one degree, She asked for the people To let her go free.
My wild love is crazy, She screams like a bird, She moans like a cat When she wants to be heard. (Yeah!) My wild love went riding, She rode for an hour, She rode and she rested And then she rode on. Right! C'mon!
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah… |

Haven't you been paying attention to the board lately! For crying out loud! How many times do I have to address this?! , that's Zooey Deschanel. She is IMO the most beautiful woman in the world and is my biggest celebrity crush of all time (hell, my biggest crush period).

| Neil Peart is who I usually think of first in terms of well crafted lyrics:
Time Stand Still
I turn my back to the wind To catch my breath Before I start off again. Driven on without a moment to spend To pass an evening with a drink and a friend
I let my skin get too thin I'd like to pause No matter what I pretend Like some pilgrim Who learns to transcend Learns to live as if each step was the end
(Time stand still) I'm not looking back But I want to look around me now (Time stand still) See more of the people and the places that surround me now Freeze this moment a little bit longer Make each sensation a little bit stronger Experience slips away Experience slips away
I turn my face to the sun Close my eyes Let my defences down All those wounds that I can't get unwound
I let my past go too fast No time to pause If I could slow it all down Like some captain, whose ship runs aground I can wait until the tide comes around
(Time stand still) I'm not looking back But I want to look around me now (Time stand still) See more of the people and the places that surround me now Freeze this moment a little bit longer Make each impression a little bit stronger Freeze this motion a little bit longer The innocence slips away The innocence slips away...
Summer's going fast, nights growing colder Children growing up, old friends growing older Freeze this moment a little bit longer Make each impression a little bit stronger Experience slips away Experience slips away... The innocence slips away
And a close second is Kris Klingensmith from Barnabas:
The Dream/Breathless Wonderment
As the sun is forced to exile, in a blaze of bloody fire Disturbing visions mystify when conscience thought retires I hear a tattered echoing from voices long since dead Another night of wonder in the moonscape of my bed
I dreamed I was in Israel two thousand years ago A festive flair was in the air; the great Passover show Every pew was taken, and we wore our Sabbath best As we partied long into the night, on a skull-shaped hill of death
Jealousy was dressed to kill, with Vengence at her side While myriads of tiny lies cavort in shiny white At first this all seemed strange to me, then suddenly I knew...
I killed Jesus Christ Yes I did, its true I killed Jesus Christ And you were with me, too
Hidden from the mystics whose writings had foretold With shattering simplicity, the mystery unfolds A small bouquet of cells becomes a living child Fathered by the great I AM, a mother; gentle, mild
Nurtured in the shadow of the iron Roman fist Shunning the dementia no human can resist Reports of earthly wonders stir the troubled universe The second Adam suffers to restore the fallen first
Hosanna Hosanna Breathless wonderment The perfect sacrament
From the dreadful crags of Zion, to the lowly Bethlehem The mighty heart of God is pierced as nail pierces hand The Spirit broods in silence as He did when time was young The Father turns away from His beloved, tortured Son
Stumbling, with my face toward the twisting, sobbing sky The dream is reality, through tear-streaked spirit eyes The wickedness I cherish bruised the One I claim to serve The horrendous crucifixion, I most richly deserved

| Babys getting anxious, the hours getting late The night is almost over, she cant wait Oh, things are complicating, my love is in her hands And theres no more waiting, she understands
The plasters gettin harder and my love is perfection A token of my love for her collection, her collection
Plaster caster, grab a hold of me faster And if you wanna see my love, just ask her And my love is the plaster And yeah, shes the collector She wants me all the time to inject her
The plasters gettin harder and my love is perfection A token of my love for her collection
Plaster caster, plaster caster Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster And if you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her Go on, ask her
The plasters gettin harder and my love is perfection A token of my love for her collection, her collection
Plaster caster, plaster caster Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster If you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her
Plaster caster, plaster caster She wants my love to last her, last her, last her And she calls me by the name of master, master
Plaster caster, plaster caster Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster If you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her
Plaster caster, plaster caster Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster And if you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her Plaster caster, plaster caster
