The King Crimson is a 2 CD collection put together by Fripp, with highlights from various live shows recorded with the Islands band (my personal favorite) during '71-'72. It's a great collection, the full shows are also available to purchase from http://www.dgmlive.com/ The two King's X albums are the newest and are widely considered to be their "return to form" albums. They were produced by Michael Wagener (Dokken, Metallica, etc.) and are phenomenal. After escaping from the dead-end Metal Blade contract they are seriously back on track and these are both excellent purchases. Witchcraft is very much a "retro" band, they fall into the "proto-metal" category along with fellow Swedish band Graveyard. They mix elements of Jethro Tull, very early Sabbath and numerous obscure late 60's/early 70's british bands into their sound. Takes a little getting used to the vocalist but they play some neat stuff and have a very authentic hippie vibe going on. The Doors...yeah, not much else to say but HELL YEAH! L.A. Woman is my favorite album by them. |
