I already knew who he was, i've liked his playing since Sailing the Seas of Cheese came out. I was just throwing his name out there to see if there was any other fans here. He's kinda like the EVH of the bass (inventive playing).

Sailing the Seas of Cheese is a pretty crazy album, but the talent on that record is phenomenal.

I have pretty much everything Les has ever played on, solo & all. He's one bad mammy jamma. On the Rhinoplasty EP, they do a good version of The Thing That Should Not Be, worth checking out.

I have a magazine around somewhere with an interview with Les Claypool in it, where he tells the story of his audition for Metallica. He sez he knew he had no chance in Hell of getting the gig, but he went anyway since Kirk Hammett (whom he'd known since high school) was nice enough to set up the audition for him. He sez as soon as they plugged in and started playing, he was like "HOLY MACKEREL, this is LOUD!" and Lars sez "You're not really used to this kind of music, are you?"

Great bass player, Pork Soda is one of my favorite albums of the early 90s.

Excellent bassist! I'm totally glad he didnt jump in with metallica because we probably would have never seen Primus come about. I mean ask yourself, Metallica with les, versus Primus. I definately would vote for Primus, not to mention Oysterhead, fearless flying frog brigade, etc.

...and James said jokingly about the experience of having him in for an audition. "He ( Les) was to good".

Love Les and his playing. Frizzle Fry remains one of my favorite albums to this day along with Blind Illusion's The Sane Asylum.

I'm glad he didnt get in with Metallica, not because of how I feel about them, but his playing wouldve never fit in. It did with BI because he wrote the music along with it, and I think the album came off pretty damn good, but I cant see him playing something like Jump In The Fire.

Great bass player but the music is just too weird for me.

I always thought he should have played bass for the music in Seinfeld.

Imagine him in Faith No More with Mike Patton. That would be crazy!

I gotta say that he's playing really well but I wouldn't have seen Metallica with him.

Scott should totally review some Primus CDs on his site. That would be cool.
