Are they the best band ever?

I'm on a Brainstorm kick latly, and I find them to be one of my all time favorite bands!!! Metus Mortis right now, but they pretty much all rule!!

Yep. Outstanding band. I randomly picked up Liquid Monster when it came out because it was on sale for $7.99. I've been hooked ever since. I immediately went out and picked up every CD, except for Hungry, which I can't find, and their EP, and they've been on constant rotation since I bought that first CD.

Good band, but the best ever? I wouldn't go that far.

Liquid Monster hooked me as well....it's one of those types. I've got Soul Temptation as well which is a notch below but still great. How are the others compared to Liquid Monster? I hold that CD in high regard in metal history - I think they just nailed it with that one - but don't want to over-extend my reach with buying more from them until I know more......

Their first 2 are go be re-released in april I believe and they are just as good!

Man, how to describe them.....

They are powermetal for sure, but with more of an edge. Maybe a little thrashy at times? Higher register vocals, but excellent ones. Just great! They are "unhappy" powermetal...not all flowery like SA, Rhapsody and the like (which I love, as well!). I may be off here, but I group them with Nevermore and Symphorce soundwise (Symphorce for obvious reasons), but they are speedier generally than those guys. I can't think of one review I've read about them that was remotely negative. It seems that to hear them is to love them.....thrash people like them for their heavier, thashier moments. Powermetal and straight ahead people like the vocals and the speed/double bass moments.

That's the best I can do!!

I would have to say that Liquid Monster is probably their catchiest album. I'm not so sure if that qualifies it as "best," however. That isn't to imply that the earlier albums are bad, either—they're not—far from it!—but they're definitely not as catchy overall. Tons of songs are up to that "catchy" quality of Liquid Monster, though; more than not. Hungry and Unholy are the only two I'd suggest you listen to before buying. The former because it's very raw, and though there are plenty of great songs, some songs are not very good; the latter for some of the same reasons, though I think every song is at least good. And they had a different singer who was good, but not as good as Franck.

I definitely recommend you check them out, though. And I totally suggest you get the albums that followed, as there isn't a bad one in the lot. Like Wargod mentioned, there are some 2CD reissues coming for the first two albums (we discussed it in another thread a while back), so I would get those if you can.

Brainstorm is awesome! "Liquid Monster" is the only CD of theirs that I own. Gotta get more of their stuff.

Never heard of 'em... would like to. I prefer good power metal with a good hook. Not always but it sure would be nice.

I actually got unto them from Andy B. Franck's prog metal band Ivanhoe. If you like dramatic songs like "Beyond My Destiny"; you might like Ivanhoe too. The guy can sing.

Listening to Soul Temptation today, and together with Metus Mortis they are my favorites by the band. But they have yet to dissapoint me!

I was also listening to Ivanhoe today, Symbols Of Time, and it left me wanting more. They sounded like a poor man's Stratovarius, w/o the happy though.... Hope the others are better.

I've never heard Ivanhoe. They've been on my lala list since day one.

I should have urged caution with Ivanhoe; they are really more of a prog band. A vehicle for Andy's voice. Sorry.
