Those of you who are Misfits fans may have heard of this. Many others have also probably heard of it in passing.

Kryst the Conqueror was a Christian Power Metal studio project by (in)famous Misfits bassist Jerry Only and his brother, guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein. They had an intresting concept.....craft songs with underlying Christian themes, but told allegorically through sci-fi and Conan the Barbarian-style imagery.

Basically, think Manowar meets Stryper. Very Happy

Furthermore, both Jerry and Doyle refer to the project as a "guitar shop" project, as they both designed, constructed, tuned and refined their own unique guitars specifically for this project. Jerry dubbed his bass the "Devastator", while Doyle dubbed his guitar "Annihilator". Both of these guitars have since been used constantly in Michael Graves-era (and post) Misfits shows.

There is a (long out of date) website which can be accesed here:

http://members.allstream.net/~talus/kryst/krystsite.htm

Here one can read song lyrics, see information on the project, as well as some images of both the Devastator and Annihilator.

The only material released has been an EP, Deliver Us From Evil. There was an album recorded (mostly), but has never been released.

Intresting project. Wish we all could've heard more of it.

I read about this a while back. It's funny as you read the archives with letters from Jerry to fans about the status of their pre-orders for their "project".

I have mp3's of the other tracks (13 including the original 5) for the full length version of Deliver Us From Evil, so they got leaked somehow...

Here are two links to get all 13 tracks for those who are interested:

.rar file:

.zip file:
http://rapidshare.com/files/48730042/Deliver_Us_From_Evil__1989_.zip

In addition to the other comparisons, I also hear a distinct early IRON MAIDEN sound and vibe through much of this material. I know that I heard an interview with Jerry at the time and he said that he and Doyle were very into Maiden when they wrote this stuff.

Oh and let's not forget that the mystery vocalist on this project was none other than Jeff Scott Soto! 🤘

I was in the fan club way at the beginning of this thing in 1989. I used to have this really cool poster of Doyle at the time which I'd love to find again. I'll post a pic of it if I can find one online.

Would someone who has the original CD be willing to send me scans of all of the inserts for my cdr? greedy

I remember hearing this years ago when it first came out and I was rather unimpressed at that time. You gotta admit, it's an odd combo... the Misfits and Jeff Scott Soto? Who'da thunk it?

I thought it came off pretty good. Not my favorite album, but an enjoyable listen for sure.

I wasn't totally into it when it came out, probably because that was the height of my MISFITS/DANZIG days and it just couldn't compare. But hearing it 20 years later, it sounds much better to me now than it did back then.
