| For that price, I would get it for sure. I was on the fence until I saw that disc of Zeppelin covers. That alone would almost be worth it for me. | |

| On the other hand, it looks kind chincy to me. Kinda like one of those 100 Horror movies for $20.00 box sets. |

Sure it is, but you gotta look at the overall picture. If even one third of the songs are good, it's a good price. | |

| Yeah you're right, TT. Ken, if you can get $23.99 of use out of it, then it's worth it. |

| The box is huge, too! For is only having 5 double-discs, that's a lot of empty space. I don't think the t-shirt is in the box (not like it would fit my tubby ass), either. If anything, it seems like something I could sell for a bit more than that, but I don't know. The box looks really cool, though. |

| Did anyone notice disc #5 is made up entirely of Led Zeppelin cover songs. The Quireboys cover of Heartbreaker is great and the Lydia Lynch (Feat Roland S. Howard i think) cover of In My Time Of Dying is one of the best covers i've heard. I don't know about the rest though. Also there's 2 songs off the one and only album by Rene Berg, that album is one of my top 20 records ever. | |

| Some huge holes in that collection. I didn't see Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Queen, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Anthrax...
Still, an impressive collection of songs for a good price. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| Yeah, that's about the most idiosyncratic collection of songs I've ever seen. History of rock it ain't; but as a sampler it looks like a good value just to learn about some cool bands. I bought a bunch of Frontiers records samplers last month, and it was really a good investment. Of course I didn't like everything, but I did learn a lot. | |

| 10 CDs for $23.99 is a damn good deal no matter how you slice it. I'd say jump on it!! On a side note, I never dreamed that I'd see Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Deicide, and Suffocation in the same collection. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

I agree with ult: seems like a highly unusual collection to be called the History of Rock. I'm also adverse to buying various-artists compilations. I just figure that, unless you're going to buy the artists' real albums for the art that they are, you might as well download the music. Otherwise, the way we purchase our music in unnecessarily expensive. For instance, I saw Hendrix's Purple Haze in there. Really, unless you're going to buy Are You Experienced, you might as well just download the song. When you buy various-artists' compilations, you're not buying a piece of the artists' work. |

The thing is that the label that made this compilation couldn't secure the rights for the music for those artists. But it's better off not having them in their because were all familiar with those big names. Its the lesser names like the Red Dogs and Rene Berg thats more interesting.

| Yup. I would have no interest in a true "Essentials of Rock" collection. I've already got all that stuff anyway, at least what of it I want to own. The point about learning about some new (to me) artists is what the value is for this sort of thing. I sometimes wonder how these things come together. I've seen some really bizarre collections at truck stops, totally incongruous. Does some little label just buy whatever songs they can afford the rights to print, and throw these things together, or what ? | |
