I was reminded of this disc by another post, and I realized I had it with me so I decided to give it a spin. I had forgotten how good it was! Dumpstar is a forthrightly but positively (testimonial not accusatory) Christian band from Chicago. Their s/t indie debut is best described as splitting the difference between "We're Coming For You" Anthrax, and Disturbed's "Believe". That is to say not like prime Anthrax, but not as teched and trendy as Disturbed. I could also see the N'orleans supergroup consortium (Phil/Corrosion/Crowbar) pounding out something like this. The main point here though is that it's very good. Yes, the riffs are downtuned and muscled up; but they are good riffs...even if delivered in a somewhat trendy manner. I'd say eight of the ten songs are flat out winners, the one I don't like sounds just a little too happy (like a very loud tribute to Stryper). I hope I can reassure those of you concerned about the moderness of the sound buy saying that I am a 50-ish guy whose main passion is 70's hard rock; so I'm not going to be impressed by something just because it makes a lotta noise. I like this style grudgingly; but I hate to see a band this good get ignored. Check them out at Dumpstar.com.
